6MT drivers, your opinion

Hey everyone,

I went last Saturday to try thr 2012 TL SH-AWD Tech Elite (in Canada). I was pleasantly suprised by all the small improvements. While I loved the new 6AT, I was wondering if some 6MT drivers could comment on a comparison between 6MT vs. 6AT.

I'm torn between the ventilated seats and the 6MT so help would be appreciated (They didn't have a 6MT at dealership to try).

Thank you!

6mt would def be more fun to drive, if i was in the market i would go for the 6mt for the fun factor. i do not have a 4th gen, but i do have an auto car, and if i did it again would def get the manual becuz my car is boring to drive

I dont care how good an automatic is or how many gears it has........theres no replacement for a manual! Ventilated seats are cool but it isnt enough to make me get an auto.

If the m/t wasn't offered in this car, I wouldn't have considered it at all. As it happens, this is one of the best shifters I've encountered. Only my S2000 was better. Like a rifle bolt.
This is a very entertaining car because of the manual combined with the awd. Downshifting into a corner and using the throttle instead of the brakes is just plain fun.

I couldnt agree more muggs, the s2000 shifter has this mechanical feel thats just amazing! I also wouldve have jumped ship had i not been able to obtain one of the few remaining manual 2011s in the country

I got my 2012 6MT last week. Like you, I never got to test drive the 6MT, in fact I got the first 6MT in this city, as the one I got was meant to be a show room/demo purpose model. I test drove the Elite (Advanced in the states) package when I signed the deal, and I loved it. It handled well and felt planted. But once I got the 6MT, the auto paled. More fun to drive, and like the others in this forum, it is THE best shifter I've ever used. Smooth as butter, and great fun clipping the corners in manual.

One down side to the 6MT and I think this goes for the SH-AWD models as a whole, is the mileage. Not the greatest, but once I'm done driving like a child at a candy store (which I think should be a month??), I should see the mileage go up. Also, the ride is very sporty, as in, it's no Rolls royce! You will definitely feel the bumps on our Canadian roads, but you should expect that from a performance sports sedan.

Bottomline - GET IT! You will not regret it.

How many months out of the year would ventilated seats be of any benefit in Quebec? With 6MT, you shift all year long!

First thank to all of you!

Ventilated seats are used 2.5 months in Qc.

Yeah that was my reasoning. I love the 19 inch wheels but I'll get better, lighter ones. As for the BSI, it's useless BS for me for now...

And the 6MT will be 2.5 grand cheaper too!

While I thought of financing the car, since my dealer in Ottawa doesn't to install any mods, I was more leaning for a lease...

Anyway,

I'll wait for the 6MT, I'll try and decide. I also got an S4/S5 to try before making any final judgement. I'm partial to Acura for the reliability and my knowledge of the dealer and I think our Audi dealer is a crook so the choice should be easy...

Good luck leaving the candy store, friend. 7 months later, and I can't get enough of the sweets!

Yes, it's like living in a candy store. Still can't stop driving it hard to support better fuel mileage. Though my iphone fuel mileage calculator is showing a gradual increase in fuel economy!! Woo hoo..

I am hoping to get a look at the requirements for the ventilated seats. Might be worthwhile buying a ventilated drivers seat from a 2012, and wiring it up. Can't be that hard now, but the cost of the seat I'm guessing will be a total rip off. Wait for the smashed cars to roll in then buy used!

Do you really need it now, given our "Spring" season thus far. Stupid weather.

The TL needs the 6MT. It's a pretty good tranny and a very rev-happy engine. Automatics are for big-iron torquemonsters.
