6 Speed Manual Transmission

Hi,

I have a 2006 TL with a 6 speed manual transmission that had the 3rd gear issue that I fixed by going to the GM synchromesh fluid. Also,it smooth out the shifting , or made shift changes smoother - less notchy.

I have a 2013 TL SH-AWD (3.7) with a 6 speed manual transmission and I want to change the transmission gear oil.

I could not find the fluid capacity (2+ quarts?), and searching on line does not show how to change it. There are many Honda/Acura MLT changes, but the drain and overfill openings are not what appears to be on the 2013 6 speed SH-AWD.

The drain bolt/plug appears to be on the bottom listed as MLT, but I could not find a weep overfill bolt opening. Is there a weep overflow bolt/plug?

Also, has anyone used the GM synchromesh FM in a 4th Gen 6 speed manual, and wha did you notice after the change?

Jack

I switched to ACDelco 4014 synchromesh and saw a night and day difference. I used standard Honda MTF for years (bought my 4G 6MT in 2014), and noticed 1st to 2nd shifts were randomly squishy or crunchy feeling and 2nd to 3rd shifts could be so squishy that it'd pop out of gear if I didn't push it in with decent force every time I shifted (similar to the 3Gs popping out of gear). Yet sometimes it shifted fine, so very intermittent. After switching to synchromesh in Aug 2018, all of those problems went away, and every shift feels significantly better.

Capacity is 2.2 qt for fluid change (2.6 at overhaul), there is a check bolt on the side that you can fill it from, but I always just fill it from the top using a long funnel.

So the drain plug labeled MTF is the drain plug- correct?

Is the fluid check bolt facing the passenger front tire?

Then you just measured 2.2 qts., and then filled from the top and did not check the fluid level from the fluid check bolt - correct?

Wow sorry, I never actually paid attention to how crappy that diagram is lmao.

The drain plug is labeled D, it's on the bottom.

https://acurazine.com/forums/fourth-...k-bolt-968506/

This guy shows much better pics of where the check bolt is, it's on the front side of the transmission facing toward the front of the car

And you're correct, honestly, I don't even bother with it. I drain it, put in 2 full 1-qt bottles, then estimate 1/5 (0.2qt) to 1/4 (0.25qt) of the last bottle based on the measurements on the fluid bottle.

Riboflavin, How is synchromesh holding up on your 4th gen 6MT? I also feel like i'm crunching gears in my 11 6MT. Would love to try your synchromesh recommendation. I found it as, "ACDelco synchromesh friction modified" is that the same one?

Yes, that is the correct fluid for your gearbox; the proper part number is 10-4014.

My 4G had the crunchy 1st-2nd and odd 3rd gear as well. Sometimes had to double check if I put it in gear fully.
GM/AC DELCO Sychromesh Friction Modified fixed all of that.

I just noticed someone asked me for an update a year ago.

Almost 2 years since that original post (3 years since I made the switch from OEM MTF) and I've still been running Synchromesh 10-4014 without a single shifting problem at all. It's gotten to the point where I completely forgot I used to have the 1-2 or 2-3 crunch every now and then.

make sure the bottle says "Friction Modified"
i had Chevy tell me for sure it is FM and then because of reading these forums I stopped by GM to check and they had the proper one:
Left bottle - correct / Right bottle - wrong

Appreciate your advice buddy... I ordered
Amazon Amazon
based on details from recommendations as part number is 10-4014 above which points exactly what you mentioned

The only difference is #10953509 number on your picture vs what I ordered. Is it still ok?

I checked my Amazon purchase history, and that's the exact same link I used when I bought mine in 2019. So yep, that's it.

2.2 US QT needed for fluid change, 2.5 US QT for overhaul, so I bought 3 bottles.
