Over in the RL Thread, there was a nice thread on tips & tricks that owners had found over time. I'm not seeing that same thread here and as the new proud owner of an 09 Tech, I'm was hoping to see what little things you all had found about the car that you could share.

I'll start. I found while ripping CD's, if you exit out of the audio menu and return to maps, there is a small progress bar on the bottom left of the map that will run until the disk has finished ripping. This is nice if you are needing the navigation and are ripping 200 CD's like I am right now.

I found out that if you hold down the channel + or - on the steering wheel, the XM radio goes up or down one increment. (Normally it just cycles between your 6 presets)

This doesn't get much use unless you are flipping through the MLB or news stations trying to find something.

 

There's a high chance that many of the RL and 3G tips/tricks will also apply to your car. My favorite nav trick is using the Zoom in/out button to page through a list of menu entries- very helpful when the list is long. I did confirm that 714tman's +/- tip does not work on the 3G unfortunately- that would have been a nice feature.

 

This also skips entire folders if using the USB audio. I was very happy to find this little feature months back.

For the tech models, turning off the engine before shifting to 'P' will make the audio system stays on. The car will remain in accessory mode.

 

I'll have to try that because I hate pulling into my garage playing a song I like and have to turn the car off and then hit the start button again and wait for it to load up to finish listening to the song... I didn't think you turn it off while in drive...

 

Is there some permanent "sticky" tread somewhere for 3G or RL Tips & Tricks? I did a quick search and did not find one.

 

I want to jack the front end up. Unlike my old Accord that had an arrow showing the location, I didn't see anything under the front end of the '09 TL AWD. Did I miss something?

(sorry if this has been answered before... searching for this was not easy but I didn't find anything here)

You have a couple options to jack up the front end:
1- slide the jack under the front bumper til it's just under the cell phone size jack point, ....it is straight back from the front L. plate, there is a cutout from the plastic underguard.
2- you can slide the jack behind either front tire - driver or passenger, maybe 8-10 inches behind, and 4-6 inches in from the cars side sill. The jack point is 4" long from front to back, and maybe a 1/2" thick.
These can also be used for jack stands.

 

OK thanks. Sounds like "1" is what I was looking for. The Accord had an arrow right in the middle of the front sub frame section. I noticed that "cell phone size" opening, will take a closer look at it to make sure that is it.

(option 2 is too much work LOL, whereas 1 is one shot deal for both jack stands).

 

I really REALLY wish there was an option like this for the manual transmission. i think it's absolutely retarded that I have to turn everything off, then hit the switch again to get the radio on and then wait for it to all reboot again.. Major PIA.. Acura screwed up that one!

 

This trick works as long as the gear lever is not in 'P' position.

 

My favorite trick is to hold down the Unlock button on the Key Remote and roll down all the windows on a hot day! I was very happy to see my 2012 TL had this after trading in my BMW X5 which also dod this.

The window trick is pretty sweet!

 

On the manuals, if you press the start button with only the brake pressed in (not the clutch) the car will turn on in "Accessory" mode - allowing you to use all of the electronics (windows, radio, etc.) without having to start the engine. Pressing it again without the clutch will turn the car off - with the clutch will start the car.

 

Average age for drivers who own an RL is around 52. Only 3.6% of RL owners are under the age of 34. They need a T&T thread/collum for quick reference because they are loosing brain cells fast.
Watched my older neighbor kick in his door the other day after he "locked himself out." Turns out the keys were still in the trunk of his Buick.

 

Not sure what you mean here by stating to press the start button with the brake pedal pressed in on manual transmission cars. Even without pressing down on the brake pedal, the car will cycle through Off->Acc->On modes. There will be a graphic in the MID telling you to press the clutch along with the start button to start the car (this feature can be disabled).

There is a way to leave the car in Accessory mode and turn off the engine. As mentioned earlier by others, on auto trannies, it's just to move the shift lever to neutral or drive and turn off the car. This switches it to Accessory mode.

On manual transmission cars, once the car is started, the only way I've found to get to Accessory mode without turning off the engine is to initiate a call via the Handsfreelink system and once the call connects, hit the start/stop button. The car will turn off and will be in the Acc mode. Hope this helps!

This isn't really a tip or trick, but it's interesting:

Something I discovered tonight on my drive home. It was a nice 59 degrees outside and I decided to turn the air off and tilt the sunroof. I then felt air coming from the door handles. My guess is that when the sunroof is tilted, the vacuum (or whatever) in the car is affected somehow and air gets in through random openings in the door. But it feels nice regardless. And then when the roof is closed, the air doesn't seep in any longer.

 

^Air comes through the vents as well...I've noticed that depending what the last temperature I had my AC/Heat set on will govern the air temp venting with the sunroof open. For example if the auto setting is on HI, and its a 65~70 degree day the air coming through the vents will be very warm. However, if the auto setting is on LO and you turn off the AC and open the roof the air coming through with be cooler.
