3rd Gen Type S vs 4th Gen 3.5
New guy here, looking to purchase my first tl soon. Will I get similar performance from the 4 gen 3.5 fwd as that of the 3gen type s. ??Both are 3.5 fwd. Thanks for any info provided.

looks being subjective. i own a 3g but i also really like a well dressed 4g. 4g is night and day difference when it comes to ride quality. the 4g just feels more solid and luxurious the 4g seems to have much better punch between 30 and 90 than my 3g does. tech wise the 4g is hands down better. money aside, if i had to choose between a new 4g vs a new 3g it would pick 4g 10 times out of 10

Yeah but it's not like you're planning on racing the car. Both have enough power to get up. I prefer the 4g over the 3G S. Though I like the Type S as well.

the 3G looks much better than the 4G to be honest
but technology wise, the 4G outperforms the 3G
Looks are all subjective. I don't personally like the 09-11 Grills. Big smiley "Power Plenum". However, some people love the progressive look of it.

The 3G overall looks more sporty and better to most people. I bought a 4G because I wanted a new car. If used, I'd go with a low mileage 2008 TL.

I went with the 4g.
- Better mileage on 4G (for auto, esp for 2012+)
- Newer/better Tech on 4G
- Easier to find the color/trim that you want since there are more on the market
- Reliability: not that the 4G is more reliable (FWD might be), but it's newer and a used 4G will probably have less mileage and so will have less problems.
As for looks, I prefer the 2012+ 4G because it looks more luxurious and eye-catching. I do like the 3G look but its definitely dated and I think that it stands out less than the 4G.
Considering that it will be much harder to find a 3G that you like, I think the only reason for going with a 3G is purely for looks.
