x10000 super horrible resale.. i used to own a 06 s60R..45k price tag.. sold it with 35k on the clock and only got 16,500 for it. Mind you at the time of sale it had about 10k in upgrades on it..STAY CLEAR AWAY from Volvos. That was my second volvo ive owned and I pledged to never buy another, just on resale value alone

Repairs and parts are expensive on Volvo's. Beleive it or not BMW & MB parts cost less.

You can look up resale at this link. S60 T6 is 52% at 3 years which isn't that bad at all.

You won't get that at trade in Texas. Maybe up north. A Volvo is like a Buick, an after thought here. Just get a Tech or better TL and you will be forever happy!

Test drove the S60 AWD. Bought the 2012 TL Advance FWD. The S60 wasn't bad. Decent looking redesign, but the interior was small, lots of plastic that made plastic noises... and the electronics were weak. Small NAV screen, horribly slow response.

Well, since I asked the question, I went and test drove a Volvo S60 T6 AWD today.

Nice things about it:

- Overall looks
- Folding back seats
- Very clean and uncluttered driver interface (audio, a/c)
- HD radio (matters to me)
- Good ride, relatively quiet
- Flat trunk floor (as compared to TL AWD)
- 5 year/60,000 mile service included

Not so nice things:

- Smaller than TL (interior/rear leg room)
- No remote trunk release
- Slow to respond DVD based navigation system
- Neither dealer nor I could input two simple addresses in the nav system; it wouldn't accept them! Completely baffled.
- Very few street names in nav system maps
- Clumsy, time consuming nav interface (as compared to TL)

Most of the problems on the S60 were with the Nav system; it was very odd. Dealer promised to get back to me.

I suspect that Volvo and, even worse, Saab are dying brands....it's easier to see the old ones on the reads than the the newer models....I suspect they have nothing left to say...nothing special anymore about them, pretty much non existent service network outside major cities...... Volvo has some chances in the future if the Chinese parent company (Geely) decide to invest some serious money into it but for Saab, I think the end is near in its current form...they have serious financial problems.

Never buy a vehicle from a manufacturer that has been shuffled around from different owners! I wouldn't purchase an Acura if let's say they bought out by GM.

I test drove an S60 back in april before I bought my TL. The seats were noticeably more comfortable than the TL and it didn't seem like a bad car at all. Having two children the back seat was way to small though. So I guess if you are looking for a compact car it wouldn't be bad but if you want a mid size car the TL is the way to go. IMHO.

Interesting thread and I'll have to go test drive one. Probably wait a couple months for the release of the 2012 S-60 R-spec model. Doubt I'll get one, but the only way to get your own perspective/appreciation of different cars is to have points of reference to compare to.

I kind of enjoy looking at and test driving different new cars. The hard part is making the time. This may seem strange but I think it's useful to "overshoot" and look at cars that might really stretch your budget.

While they are generally better across the board, seeing how much you have to pay for (in most cases) incrementally better helps me with figuring out the overall value proposition. I guess that's just another way of saying it helps me settle for less, but with a reason I can live with rather than wondering after-the-fact if I should have pushed a little higher.

Thanks for the comments on the S60's nav system. I do have to spend more time with those and the audio systems when I do test drives. Sounds like the Volvo will be a good point of reference for a mediocre nav system.

The Chinese do it just to learn and absorb the modern auto design, manufacturing, and technology of the western auto makers. They have no interest in bringing Volvo back to it's top form, which will take many fold the money they already put in.

I had an 04 S60R... I too had tons of mods, full Evolve body kit, downpour, exhaust, suspension..... It depreciated like a brick... Don't buy one.

Also, none had quite a few mechanical and other issues... All were dealt with under warranty... But compared to my RL, it was unreliable. I used to have an older Volvo... Built before ford was involved... Those were tanks and while boring, they were built to last... The older one was bulletproof compared to the newer one.. I'd never buy another Volvo

lol. That was very honest. Since it's our perception of reality that controls most of us...try changing your perception. Rather than thinking "I'm settling for less" which leads one to feel aggrieved imo; think of choosing bullet proof reliability as an intellectual status symbol or choosing best value in class as wisdom and control of profligate impulses. A BMW ain't gonna get you to heaven.
