2012 TL SH-AWD Tech - Graphite w/ Ebony

After a long string of delays I finally bought the TL SH-AWD w/ Tech today. Took the dealer a couple days to locate and get the Graphite w/ Ebony combo as it seems there was exactly 1 of this in all of SoCal at this time. Got a decent deal as well, I think - 38K (including destination) before T&L - the next dealer was 1K more and others were even more. Also had them provide splash guards and wheel lock in the price.

They also matched the online handa price for all season mats and trunk tray. Told them upfront to match the online price of $1240 for Acura Care 8yr 100K miles that I obtained from online vendors. They wouldn't budge from $1340, which I ended up taking as it wasn't too much more and I was able to roll the cost in the financing.

Also plan to get tinting and clear bra next week..

Needless to say, loving the car even more than the test drives. The SH-AWD is really the star of the show here - thanks to all the folks here who encouraged me to go with this option.

Congrats of the purchase...

I honestly think you could've gotten the Acura Care extended warranty for cheaper.. I got mine's for $990 after showing disinterest in the warranty, then finally the Finance Manager asked me how much I was willing to pay additional per month for this warranty.

Congrats--and it seems like you did stupendously well on price. The lowest another local SoCal dealer for AWD-Tech was just north of $40K (of course that happened to be the very rare Mayan Bronze/Umber combo). How did you ever negotiate down to $38K?

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

dragonwang - Are you sure it was Acura-branded warranty and for 8yr / 100K? $990 seems pretty low as even the online vendors are $1240+ and they are usually the lowest. Dealers do have warranties from other companies that are usually lower. If it was Acura Care at that price and terms that is really an excellent price! My dealer would not budge even to $1300!

SeismicGuy - As you mentioned most dealers are just around $40K and were not ready to budge much. This was the only dealer at this price, initial quote was $38,300 and then came down to $38K with a couple accessories. When they drew up the contract they actually wrote the price as $39K and mentioned $1K as 'Flex Money' paid by Acura - I have no idea what that means other than that it did not come from my pocket! Your Mayan Bronze + Umber should be nice once it arrives!

FWIW - the Base + Tech was quoted as about $35K by them. This was a pretty good deal too I thought. If I had to pay $5K extra for AWD as per other dealers, that may have changed my choice. Apparently they don't have as much leverage in the AWD model.

You might have just picked the right place at the right time. I have not really shopped for new cars much in the "normal" way but ages ago when we were shopping for the 1979 Toyota Supra that had just come out, my wife and I were going from dealer to dealer and using referral services that were available at the time but prices were typically no deals. The we just walked in cold into another local dealer and out of the blue offered us a great price for no obvious reason--we ended up buying there.

I think the Acura dealers (probably all dealers) get incentives from the manufacturer based on how many cars they move out during a certain period. It could be that you hit it just right with Reeves--lucky you!

By the way, if I am interpreting your photos accurately it looks like you have the same kind of wheel well trim that Acura was offering when we got our 2000 TL. It has served us well over the years in eliminating dings to those areas but I did not see this offered as an accessory on Acura's website.

Sarge_in.....Congrats! I think you got a sweet deal and your car looks awsome! I am not going to lie to you, I really those those 18" wheels and hope you won't swap them for aftermarket ones. These wheels compliment the car so nicely. I agree with you that the SH-AWD sure is an awsome feature and makes the car that much sweeter. I will never use the SH-AWD in snow or rain but even on dry surfaces, the sure-planted feel on the road is just magnificent

Hello sarge,

Yeap, I am absolutely sure. I have the Acura Care contract that they provided me with after we did all the paperwork. At first I was skeptical too when I told my friend, so we took out the paperwork, and confirmed it is indeed from Acura, not some third-party.

Nevertheless, you have a nice car in your hands.

Thanks guys!

SeismicGuy - Yep, looks like different dealers have different flexibility at different times. TrueCar and CR also showed $40K as recommended price, and $38.5K as dealer cost. Norm Reeves has proven to be the cheapest in both of my last 2 purchases - the TL now and the Odyssey in 2009. They were also the least pushy - highly recommended!

weather - I actually like the look of the 19" wheels in Advance model even more except for the fact that they are 19"..lol. In any case, no plans to change these out!

Zuck214 - Congrats! Show us some pics!

dragonwang - That is a superb deal in that case and totally worth it!

Just noticed your post in the Sign In thread. Was your car a CPO, as it says 2010 model?

Dragonwang... can you give us the name of the dealership that offered you this price? Also, the salesperson's name/info if available?

Sure, I purchased my vehicle from Acura 101 West in Calabasas, CA http://www.acura101west.com. Unfortunately, I don't remember the Finance Manager's name...

That's an awesome price and lower than the $38.5K cost according to truecar - must be some other incentives that made this work for the dealer?

Thanks guys! Been more than a month and still loving the car! The pics above do not have the tint, but the car looks even better with it - I got 20% rear and 35% fronts. And the clear bra - can hardly notice it and gives peace of mind.

I tried responding to your PM but seems your box is full. They used some kind of Acura Flex Money for $1000. So the contract says price of $39K, I paid $38K and there is $1K of this cash. I am not sure how they get it, but doesn't look like all dealers have it as none of the others were willing to match that price. I guess email/call as many dealers as you can as their incentives seemed to vary amongst them significantly. Best of luck - you are gonna love the car!
