2012 TL plastic engine covers?
Just bought an used TL and first thing I don't like is the plastic covers all around the engine. Do they sever any propose? I want to just get rid of those and the only reason I can think they are there is for looks or sound deadening?
Any reason not to get rid of all the plastic?

I was thinking that as well. Can't be good for air flow.

If you remove the front cover it leaves a gap between the hood and grill. That's why it has rubber on he end.

This trend started with the so called luxury brands. The makers put these lovely covers over the top of the engine so that the engine bay looks neater and prettier (?) Maybe add a nice 3 pointed star to impress the masses who need that logo to justify their purchase.
If the hood is raised in the showroom environment, or at a car show e.g. most buyers of luxury cars are impressed with that kind of sh*t and they have no idea what they are looking at.
A friend of mine, an actual engineer, bragged to me that his BMW X3 had 'the big engine". When I asked him what displacement it was, he had no idea.
He didn't know if it was a 4, a 6 or an 8.
Then brands like Acura started copying this trend since people in the showroom seemed to like the look of these things.
Doesn't cost them much for some plastic covers and they jack up the price of the vehicle ('cause it's a luxury car you know) and everybody's happy.
Except they serve no purpose, they're actually counter productive when you want to do any maintenance, etc.
But as mentioned above, the front cover on the TL should not be removed.

Look around at local junkyards or find one closest to you at car-part.com.

I pulled my engine covers off and they're just sitting in my garage. Where are you located? Not sure if it's worth shipping them.
