2012 Acura TL Engine Noise

VIDEO OF THE NOISE

Hello,

I have noticed a pretty loud engine noise upon using the accelerator in my 2012 Acura TL (not AWD). It has been occurring for around a month and am unsure what is going on. It only happens when the car is in drive. I have replaced the oil as well replaced the transmission fluid, and am also using premium fuel. Neither has made any difference. When I first get in the car in the morning, it is somewhat less noticeable, but after that is is consistent when accelerating somewhat rapidly. It seems to be some sort of engine knock/detonation, but I am not really sure.

Are you giving it full throttle or partial? It sounds a bit like the low load/low RPM knock that I get sometimes. Try switching up your fuel to a different brand. I found that Chevron reduces it. That's assuming it's the same problem. I can't tell for sure from the vid.

This is from partial. Full produces similar results. I will try different fuel a chance.

Mine's odd because there's no noise at full throttle. There's no recorded knock when monitoring at full throttle. Only at partial.

How many miles on the car? I'm guessing a bad timing belt or accessory belt tensioner.

My timing belt is 110K miles old. The problem started about 30K miles ago for me. I'll be changing the belt soon. Maybe the problem will go away after that. For now, dropping timing a few degrees for 40% - 80% throttle from 1400 - 2800 RPM has solved the problem. But that's a band aid. It's now set lower than stock.

However, if it were the timing belt, I'd think I'd see knock at higher RPM's or throttle, which I don't. So kind of weird.

I have the exact same problem on my 2014 TL AWD 3.7L, my car is undergoing oil consumption test and if it fails (hopefully in my case), dealer will disassemble the engine and replace defective parts (pistons, piston rings, spark plugs, etc.)

According to people on this thread https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-p...rating-963409/, that noise goes away after the fix.

thats called piston slap. Did you buy the car used? like a gargle metallic sound around 2 rpm?
