2012 6MT Pricing?

What is the average going price for a 6MT (Forged Silver Metallic)? The salesman tells me that due to the MTs being "rare and in high demand" the pricing is typically ~$43K (Washington, DC area). The 2012s are barely out, so I'm not sure what a fair price is, although I'm thinking the $40K range is more like it. I'm willing to pay a fair price, but don't want to get taken to the cleaners, either. Can anyone comment or share their pricing experience?

Thanks!

When I got my 6MT when it first came out, I was only able to get a small break from MSRP. I paid 41k off the 43k MSRP. But my dealer had 3 other 6MT's on the lot, so I was in a dealing position.

But, if your dealer only has one, and they are a smaller dealer, they likely will not get many, so yea, expect to pay a premium over 6AT.

Pete...did the $41K you paid include the destination fee? If so, I think you did quite well.

The dealer has two 6MTs in stock (both the color I want) plus there's another one in town at another dealer (also in my color). I'm hoping this gives me some negotiating space. TrueCar doesn't yet list the average price for the 2012 MT, but it does offer the below:

Dealer Price - $39,681
Factory Invoice - $40,968
Sticker Price - $43,745

I'm still hoping the $40-41K window will be open for me. Somebody slap me if I'm being unrealistic!

That seems fair. It's new model, prices have risen and the auto market in general is much stronger than it was a year or so ago. I wouldn't expect you could do a whole lot better than 40-41. But, if you waited several months you might do better then.

If gas prices stay high, car sales are going to decline and the market there is will move to higher MPG cars. Discounts on cars such as the TL would likely go higher.

Good luck on the purchase. Let us know how it went.

Yea, my 41k was all in (minus taxes). Granted this was on a 2010 TL 6MT when they first came out, so probably pretty accurate. I think 41ish should be a good deal, anything less is an awesome deal. If you don't get the price you want.. walk away. I guarantee that in a few months you'll probably be able to get one for the price you want.

I got mine in November of last year and paid $36.5k (this was with a $1500 incentive). Like the rest of the posters say here, timing is crucial... buy towards the end of the month when the dealers are more willing to deal... start the negotiations about a week before the end of the month... if nothing else, send an email to dealers in a 200-300 mile proximity... there'll be someone who wants to do a deal...

^^Good advice, especially as to widening your geographic circle. The more dealers you have in play, the better your chances of negotiating the price you want.
