2010 TL AWD 6 speed

I own a 08 TL-S 6 speed as a daily driver. I have debated over just about every car. I live in the Midwest and the daily driver must be capable in Snow. After going through just about every option, I opted for a TL-S 6 speed. I don't like the FWD. Torque steer is horrendous. I have always owned a rear wheel drive and the switch to the FWD has been very difficult. When I drive my RWD or an AWD and then return to driving the TL-S, it is noticeably unstable (Torque steer). I am in a process of looking again for another car. I am thinking about waiting for the 2010 AWD TL 6 speed. When will it be available? Any rumors or inside info?

pricing?

Anyone heard anything about pricing yet? I have seen the colors and know it will only come in the tech package.

Just curious if it will be similar to the 3G in that they offer some suspension/brake tweaks and keep the price the same or if they adjust pricing.

I also own an 08 Type-s 6 speed and im strongly considering the new 6 speed. Im wondering if its going to come with a lower suspension and brembos?? I cant wait to test drive it but if it doesnt at least have brembos ...ill wait for a type s version.

no brembos... but listen to this

the new TL brakes are BIGGER and more efficient then the UA6/7 Brembos

The Fronts are 12.6" (Brembos are 12.2..... and 5AT calipers are 11.8)....

The Rears are 13.1...where as the UA7/UA6 were 11.1

For anyone who hasn't seen it, nearly a year old but a good technical overview of the "prototype" but it's a good indicator of what to expect for the production 6MT.

i could have waited and held out 3 more months for it... but the amount of miles i drive ,and with NY/LI traffic.. i could justify the 6MT...

ive read the reviews, and there are ALOT of big differences between the two.... but, dont forget... the UA6/7 had a lot of differences between some 5AT & 6MT (engine damper, brembos, thicker RSB, LSD, 100lbs less..)

so its a similar trade off like when comparing the last 5AT vs 6MT

I just got off a phone with a fleet salesman. Trying to find out if he has any special pricing on the 2010 TL AWD manuals, he mentioned to me that Acura is pushing out the release of the 2010 TL AWD 6sp till Jan 2010.

Can anyone confirm this?

I hope it's just that many dealers wont get any till later. There should be some out there by oct or nov. I would expect that most dealers won't even allocate any, and perhaps by time someone inquires they have to wait to bring one in. Plus they want to sell us what they have now.

As far as I know, the MDX is pushed till December and the ZDX in January - NOT the 6MT TL SH-AWD...October it shall be!

I think if you can get over the exterior styling, the 2010 6MT AWD will be very capable sporty sedan.

This is kind of out of the topic but the reason why i've loved honda/acura so much is that it provides the consumer ALL technologies that are current now. Think about it, the standard amenities that an Acura contains are all options on all other car manufacturers. BMW, for example, has a PREMIUM package in which you get bluetooth, xenon headlights etc. These opions are STANDARD on an ACURA. Much props to Acura for always trying to please the consumer. I'm all over this Acura TL 6sp. I currently drive an 06 TSX 6sp and although i love it, jumping into this baby will be a HUGE improvement...

There is no free lunch...if the stuff was optional you would be able to get an Acura for the price of an Accord.

As for the pricing of the Tier I cars if people will pay it the price is right & people are paying it.

That isn't entirely true. It is cheaper to manufacture a car in only two or three combinations like Acura does than to build cars with an almost infinite combination of option packages. Acura's process does reduce consumer choice, but it is more efficient.

, yep this is the mantra of Honda/Acura's product line in terms of trim groups and extremely few individual options. Actually each TL is comsidered a trim group (ie my TL is a 2005 6MT NBP Camel non-Nav non-HPT the actual model trim).

It does greatly reduce the total cost of the car, with not getting all the possible combinations you want.

There may be no free lunch, but when you look on the internet for the sticker price of a TL you know what you'll be paying. With a BMW or MB, or most others, you have to go add a whole bunch of options before you know that. Fewer opportunities for a salesperson to play games = a more satisfying buying experience.

BUY.

You don't want to be returning your car to stock form when you take it back... plus its going to have wheels, a body kit, grill, and whatever else you produce...

Well, I can always part out when I'm done, returning to stock isn't a problem.
The only thing I would hate would be the springs. The grille is bolt on, as are the wheels and kit. Plus the dealer I lease from actually carries my products, so I'm sure they won't mind the parts, heck, they would probably sell the car as is if I return it that way.

Like you said as long as they are bolt ons it's no big deal. I've swapped a full system, rims and hids in a few of my leased cars and never had a problem.

Remember my 3G Type-S ?? I returned it 100% to stock, in a matter of 3 days.. mostly in my own garage with a socket wrench and some screw drivers... only thing i left on the car was the tinted windows, and a-spec kit

turning back to stock is never a problem, and in fact, you can make some $$ ... all my parts sold for almost $10gs!!! I made money switching to the new 4G (even though it was my money from the get-go)

I have hill assist on my weekend driver. I don't like it. If you have been a manual driver, it will take sometime to get used to on a manual car. The brake is held for some non-intuitive amount of time. It hesitates and then pops off. I wish I can turn it off.
Oddly enough I didn't mind having hill assist in an automatic i used to own.

What do you guys/gals think the demand will be on the 6MT?

One of the local dealer claim it will likely sell for full MSRP due to limited production. Obviously if demand outweighs production, price will be higher; if demand is low, discounts likely.

Of course the dealer may be just pulling my leg and wants me to buy an 09 auto.

I buy all my cars through the internet regardless of make & know exactly what I will be paying before I step foot in a showroom. I have no interest in dicking around with a car salesman who is playing the running back to his boss to get a price game.

Just go to the showroom to sign the paperwork. If its not correct, walk out & find another dealer or wait for the "Sorry we made a mistake on the numbers" call. As long as you are prepared to walk its hard to get burned. Generally, its the "gotta have it "guys that get all emotionally involved that get screwed over.

I expect the first few months after the 4G6MT release will be a happy time for the car salesman with a lot of easy marks walking through the door saying please take my money.

Then again it will be interesting to see what the true demand is, not what the salesman says it is to jack up the price. Read someplace IIRC the 3G6MT was a very small percentage of sales. Even so it was no big deal when I got my 6MT. The dealer did not have one so he swapped cars with one that did. Took an extra day to truck it in.

That's a very good way of buying most expensive things: get the facts first then it's much harder for a salesperson to try to manipulate you. Remember, it's your money, we must do our homeworks first!

Short story: I did the same when buying my house. I checked a lot of them over the net and I kept an open mind. I managed to lower the price a fair bit and got a great deal.

2009 Carrera S with Sport PASM 6 speed.
At first I welcomed the idea of a hill assist on a manual car. When I lived in L.A., I tried to avoid going north on LaCienega onto Sunset when the traffic was dense with a manual. Its was a real headache on a steep hill on rush hour. But now that I have the hill assist on a 6 speed, its not nearly as useful as I assumed. Its great on paper but hampers your driving in real life driving. I was on a gentle hill, stopped on a red light. I tried to drive off when it hesitated due to the brake assist. The car then launched off. Its no fun to launch when you don't plan on doing it, especially with a hot cup of joe on your hand.

I think there will be some demand (from the diehards and gearheads) but no where near the hype, esp. with the state of the economy. It's a niche car made for a small group of drivers. I hope Acura takes a more progressive stance next time and offer a dual-clutch tranny.....manuals are nice in a WRX or a 911 but doesn't belong in a luxury family sedan.

I would have to respectfully disagree. I would not have purchased the 08 TL-S 6M if it was available only in a DSG or automatic. There are very few options of four door family sedans that are available in 6 speed manual. This becomes even more scarce if you want something that is an all wheel drive. You have either the BMW 3 series X drive or the 5 series X drive. I purchased the TL-S despite the fact that it was a front wheel drive because of the 6 speed Manual. I did not want to purchase another BMW as i had an ///M3. It would be a huge loss in my opinion if Acura decides to replace the 6 speed manual for a DSG. It would make sense to change over the automatic to a DSG and keep the 6 speed manual. 2010 TL AWD-SH 6 speed looks great on paper. I am looking forward to driving it. I would not consider it if it was only available in an automatic or DSG.

I would not consider it if it was only available in an automatic or DSG.

Manuals are becoming obsolete. That is a fact. Even Ferrari now is switching over to all F1 DSG's and Porsche may even do the same in the coming years. The DSG's are so advanced now that cars equipped with them are just as fast or even faster than those with manuals. The percentage of 3G's sold with manuals were very small......it will be even smaller with the 4G. Aside from bragging rights, I see no reason for Acura to continue to put manuals in the TL.....esp. in the big and heavy 4G. It makes sense, though, for the smaller and lighter TSX.
