RWD cars do go in snow with snow tires of today.

Remember when ALL CARS were RWD. My first 6 vehicles were RWD, including a WS6 Firebird that I drove IN Northern IL winters.

You want a true sports sedan? Then get yourself a RWD car.
so you're saying an audi quattro or 335xi isn't a sports sedan? i don't know about that. personally i think the tranny and engine (and obviously 4 doors) is what makes a sport sedan rather than which wheels the power goes through.

fwiw i do have a rwd car, a g35c. the tl-s was for the winter for the wife so i don't get nervous about her getting stuck in a bad storm. if it wasn't for the tl-s i'd be stuck with an expensive 3 series and i'd have to take back all the things i've said about bmw drivers

notice all the cars you mention have a manual shift option, acura should do the same...

I do remember when all cars were RWD..I owned a few. And they all sucked in the snow. Todays cars are better...but still dangerous in the snow. I dont see what the big deal is for RWD...I would take my tl over a g35 any day.

I agree that AWD cars are sportier than FWD cars. I do think the term "sporty" goes beyond auto and manual. The IS350 comes only with a 6speed auto & the IS-F comes only with a 8speed auto and the C350 Sport & C63 AMG only comes with a 7speed auto. Does this make them "less-sporty" because of their use of an automatic tranny? I don't think so.

But if these cars were FWD, then I would just have a laugh. Imagine 300-400+hp going through your front wheels?

No way I would buy the auto. Would have to be 6MT or dual clutch DSG type.

Main reasons I bought the 06 TL was 6MT + Brembos. Love both every day.

to me it absolutely makes them less sporty, or at least less fun to drive. i've tried a dsg which is supposed to be one of the best autos, it didn't do anything for me really, i would probably end up just driving it like a regular auto than playing with the paddles all the time.

300 hp going through the front wheels... i think i can imagine that... or at least close to it

even if it's fast as 335i, I wouldn't buy one if they only offer automatic transmission
I hope they have manual transmission on 4G TL Type-S

This is not CAR TALK.

Look at the thread title! We are talking about 2009 TL transmissions.

We are not talking about Toyotas or any other cars/models. These off topic posts waste people's time and are against the forum rules.

We like to let the members take care of things themselves. However, we're not getting very much cooperation in the 4th Generation Forum.

STAY ON TOPIC. If you want to talk random stuff, take it over to Car Talk or Ramblings.

Looks like I will be joining u in the wheels fall off party. My 04 is going nowhere until a six speed emerges from Acura.

For me...a big fat no. The six speed on a pretty fast car was THE main reason I bought my 3G TL. Just wondering what you guys think...
i agree

6MT I hate auto
I get bored
The best excitement from driving my TL is the 6 SP MT hitting the gears at the right RPM

6MT or nothing, the only thing after that I would need besides the AWD and 300+ hp is a nice supercharger then the car should be golden, 2 doors would be bettdr of course, but I can live with 4.

Well the first order we're placing today does not have any SH-AWD cars on it. Looks like the production line is only making FWD for the first month. There is no manual offered on any TLs for now.

LOL. My landlord is a retired schoolteacher in her late 60s and she only drives stick. She traded in her '97 Camry LE 4ycl manual transmission for an '07 Camry LE 4cyl manual transmission last year. And she looks and acts every bit the part of a nice old lady. lol.

If the rumors are true that Acura will only have automatic transmissions for both the 280hp FWD and the "uplevel" 310hp 3.7L SH-AWD, and won't have the manual tranny option until 2010, I think that that would absolutely sink sales. I mean, at least when the 3G TL was launched in fall '03, 5 speed ATs were the norm, the cutting edge since 5 speed MTs were still prevalent. These days it's 6 on up. I don't think Honda/Acura has anything higher than 5-speed ATs to offer in the MY09 which make their products look downright antiquated.

As much as I don't like Hyundai and think that their designers killed the Genesis design from the concept in Detroit to the production model, I think that, if priced right, like $39K to $42K for the 4.6L Genesis, that car is absolutely going to eat Acura TL and RL sales, esp. the TL since the RL never really sold that well. If this TL, Acura's bread-and-butter, doesn't take off, Acura's in deep s--t.

I'm sure you know that Pflueger has a nice White '08 TL-S 6MT - as of a few days ago. I'm sure they could give you a good deal on it, like a Costco discount. lol.

Yes I know, I was just adding to the discussion that there will be no MT for the 2009 TL and no SH models in the first batch to arrive.

At the very least Acura should have offered the FWD in a 6spd manual trim, I don't see why they wouldn't.

Actually, I see it 180 deg opposite. With the number of MTs sold, I'm surprised (but pleased) that they even bother to make them.

The reason I bought my 04 was the looks, value and 6 speed MT. The 4th gen is not a contender in anything I value.

Acura needs a 6/7 speed DSG transmission.

One good DSG (like Audi has) will suit everyone's needs.

It's be interesting to see if they offer it in the FWD or SHAWD version or both. Although I can't imagine both since the cost of tooling for a AWD transaxle that is only used on one Acura/Honda product seems like a poor Return On Investment (ROI).

Hopefully we can get the 6spd manual with the SH-AWD. Any of the motors would be fine by me, of course the beefy 300+ hp motor would be ideal. That car would be the preferable all-motor choice to the turbo Subies and Evos running around town. I would hope they (Honda/Acura) would consider this because the styling alone on the new TL has turned off quite a few people.
