Totally. As in "No, the 2007s don't have any changes. They have the exact same features as the 2006!"

Now, I love my 2006, but I'd have loved to have had the additional features that my sales rep bold-faced lied about.

yea, it does happen... i never really look at it like that.... the first year's always have the biggest problems

04-05 TL's had some tranny issues, fixed by 06+

99-01 TL/CL/ AV6 had the worst tranny issues, which were fixed a little better by 02-03

I am going to hang onto my 08 Type-S. I love the car. I'm sure the new TL is going to be the sh*t, but I want to wait and see what kind of problems/if any it will have. IMO the 08 TL-S is the best a 3rd gen can get. There is no more improving that can be done since it's being replaced. I might wait until the last year of the 4th gen to pic one up.

I went from 2004 Acura TL (purchased 10/10/2003) >> 2005 RL (purchased 11/22/2005) and informally placed an order for a 2009 TL.

It's informal because no one has any information yet, and I don't care about color/etc.

I've been hearing the same thing from the folks around here who build the engines. '09 TL Front drive with 3.5L V6 and a Type-S with SH-AWD and a 3.7L good for 305-310hp. Not anything we haven't heard before, I guess, but Anna is where the build 'em.

if it has a 3.5L V6 then it will probably have the same amount of power as the current Type S which is still an increase in power over the current Standard TL

i had to go the dealer for some service and asked a couple of salesman and no one knew anything very hush hush, which is so freaking ahnnoying,

one person mentioned that they might make only minor changes for the 09, since the type-s has been selling so well,

Someone on Vtec.net mentioned that after comparing the Sports 4 pics to the spyshots of the TL that they are very similar. I started to compare the two and indeed, they do resemble each other, more so in fact than the Sports 4 and TSX spyshots. Could it be possible that Honda has designed the TL to look more like the Sports 4 concept than the TSX?

I have a first year 3rd Gen TL and the only problem I have had is a dent on the center armrest console lid which the dealer replaced -no questions asked.

Nothing else. No squeaks or rattles. Excellent performance/gas mileage. Just what I was expecting and more.

I also have an '04 TL, and there were definitely a few issues initially (though I've never had any transmission problems someone else mentioned). But they were all taken care of free of charge with my car picked up and delivered with the use of a loaner car in the interim. They were: glove box rattle (fixed), wheel alignment problem (tires and one wheel replaced), and some paint peeled off front bumper (bumper repainted. Admittedly, that was all within the first few months, but the car has been bullet-proof since.

Hey, me too! Center armrest console lid replaced under warranty a couple of months before warranty expired at the 4 year mark in late December. It was my choice to replace the Bridgestones with Michelin A/S Pilot Sports at 10k miles. Everything else flawless! BTW, I'm still under 16k miles.

Who said the Type-S is selling "so well"? They are just selling OK, it's Acura's bread and butter car. TL is still #2 in the entry-luxury segment but sales have been sliding since 2006. If they were selling so well, why all the crazy discounts? 3-series is still killin it and G35 sales are eating a large share now.

According to the TL's history in life cycle 2007 was the facelift and the redesign comes right on time for 2009. Sales has nothing to do with it.

Last month my wife went a paid automotive panel in Long beach. The called he because she is the registered owner our TL. The did not tell us in advance who the research was being done for and only told us as owners of a TL if we would be interested in attending this panel which paid $150.00 cash for about 2 hours of her time. When she got there there was a Infiniti G37, BMW 335i coupe, Audi A4, Lexus ES330 and a prototype TL. My wife not much of a car person but said the car seemed a little larger and in much different in appearance. She only said initially she and others did'nt immediately like and it would take some time to get used to. She said the interior was sort of similar but the exterior was totally different ala new Accord. She did note that it had Super Handling All wheel drive. They did not drive the cars and only evaluated the interior and exterior.

Thank you very much ~ Xpditor, finishline, acurasofla.
The main reason I was asking this question, because I am thinking "if I should buy it when the sales start or perhaps wait a bit?"

rka4570, did your wife take any photo or perhaps if she can "draw" or "describe" the prototype TL? I mean like how is the different than the current Gen?

I initially thought the new Accord was fugly but surprisingly that little bugger's looks has grown on me. The new gen TLs best bet is to do a slight exterior refresh of the current model. This current gen exterior looks I don't think can be matched but slight tweaking won't at least diminish it. Audi has been very good about refreshing their new models without radically changing the overall aesthetics.

I have to agree. The current TL-S has a great looking back end. I absolutely love the way the quad exhausts are shaped. I also like that the chrome tips are integrated into the exhaust tips rather than just being rings over an exhaust tip (like most cars on the market). The back end of the new TL-S was one of the main reasons I traded my '05 in on a '07.

There's like a 5-page "Look at the TL's ass" in the photo gallery.

Whoever asked about "pics" from that Long Beach panel/test group - are you nuts?? lol. NO way they'd let a camera into something like that. Probably had to sign something to that effect.

The concern with 1st MY production is that all the assembly/parts supply/manufacturing bugs are not worked out. Sometimes things don't quite work like the engineers and designers planned and changes have to be made. Early adopters have a higher likelihood of getting a buggy car. They work fast to fix/change things, but it's hard to make the perfect car even after you've got a couple of year behind you.

Rockyfeller is right. TL sales suck. The MDX and RDX is Acura's bread & butter now. Personally, I think Acura is feeling the backlash of their shitty transmissions in the not to distant past, as well as the poor customer service from corporate.

Might want to check out the 2009 TSX on www.vtec.net . It looks pretty hot IMO.

^^^The TSX is ok...but the RL is horrible...and those aren't spy shots, they're the real thing. Pics are in the above link, in the RL section, and in Automotive News.

Acura is not headed down a good path.

I think the RL looks like the new Accord. I'll reserve my opinion for when I see it in person but by looking at the pictures, I do think it’s an improvement from the last RL.

I am truly not impressed with the technology updates announced with the new RL. Since the RL is the "top of the line" Acura model I can't imagine anything new being introduced with the eventual unveiling of the TL later this year. I was really hoping for more.
So now we have "weather" and improved audio for the Bluetooth. That's it ?? Nothing else mentioned is really new, just improved.

If Acura is going to offer a "whole new vehicle" or the "next generation" of a model why the hell do they package it with technology that has been in the car for the last six years? What's "new" about that?

Note to Acura: "Improved" is not "New".

If the only thing "new" about the next generation TL is going to be the way it looks, i.e., spiffy new exhaust tips, new plastic grill design, then they are making a whole lot of noise about old news. Tell us about something we don't already know or give us something we don't already have.

"Glass" instruments anybody ???? Aircraft did away with mechanical needle-type gauges a while ago. Everything now is pure digital and they look fantastic. And I'm not talking about the "digital look" that has been a failure. I don't want a digital readout of my speed but wouldn't it be cool if the gauges resembled something similar to the way they look now but were completely digital? Do a image search on Google for "glass cockpit" if you want to see an example.

Aviation has always been way ahead of the auto industry as far as technology goes. But that technology eventually catches up. Anti lock, or anti-skid as it's called in aviation, has been around since the early seventies on aircraft and uses the same principle that cars use today. Fly-by-wire technology was used in aviation ( Concorde ) going back to late sixties and is only now being adapted to automobiles.

I was really hoping for a re-vamped, industry first introduction of something with the new TL. I guess I'm wrong. My excitement level of what I'm going to see has significantly decreased.
