I wouldn't go upside down on your 09 to do it, but glad to see another loyal Acura owner.

I didn't say he was, I just said I wouldn't go upside down for it. Many people only a year into a vehicle purchase haven't paid off much more than the taxes they financed and the dealer markup; you never know the situation. Since he mentioned he only had owned the vehicle a year, I offered that I didnt feel the difference between the two was worth burying yourself. He'll, I only owe 14 on mine with 21k on the ticker, and I wouldn't trade up for a 2012; rather have it paid off than an air conditioned seat and another gear - and going fwd to AWD is a price jump on itself, where AWD to fwd was in your favor for cost.

If you can work the numbers to be in your price range do it. I'm happy with my '12 TL sh-awd. I thought about the advance package but decided not to.

Go and test drive the 2012 TL, and appreciate the difference between the new 2012 6AT and the 2009 5AT trannies.

Quick question about this. Not meaning to throw things off topic but the 5AT thats in the 09-11 TLs is it significantly better than the 2nd/3rd gen TLs. I was thinkin of this over the long term. I'm pretty sure it's WAY too early. I may need to ask this again in 3 more years. I'm sure the 6AT is a good tranny. I just kno the 5AT isn't so good with handling the power from the V6. 4cyl it's a-ok. But there's more to it like design, solenoids (pressure switches), fluid, etc...

To the OP if your not upside down and it financially works for you, why not?

^^^^^

To tell you the truth, there isn't another auto transmission from Acura as bad as the 5AT that came with the 2G TL's.

The 2G TL/CL 5AT auto box had some serious design faults with which the internals of the auto box were not getting sufficient fluid flow for proper cooling. Compounded by mechanical instead of drive-by-wire throttle linkage, 3/4 throttle to full throttle 2->3 upshifts and 3/4 throttle to full throttle 5->3 downshifts would generate tremendous amount of trapped heat which then caused the 3rd gear clutch pack to disintegrate.

Bits and pieces of the clutch pack materials would start to clog up the oil filter, thereby further restricting fluid flow, and eventually the auto tranny failed.

The factory extended warranty on the 2G auto tranny has all expired, and a dealership tranny rebuild job runs easily between 3K to 5K.

That's why I'm so eager to get rid of mine 2G TL.

hey there.im an X5 owner.i like both the new TL and TSX.when i look at a car to buy i factor in how easy it is to work on.after checking out the new line up for bmw im steering away from them.the engine compartments are now ridiculous and they got rid of the dip stick(computer now monitors oil quality and level).anywayz i noticed the engineering behind the v6 tl and tsx are practically identical.first question is how easy it is to a spark plug change on the tl.i tried searching for it but only found results for the 2g and some info on the 3g.

They aren't bad. It's all coil pack based ; the rear bank is a squeeze, but with a universal and an extension - they're not bad.

It's not like the Hyundai or Chrysler V6, where you have to take the intake manifold apart and then off to get at them.

thanks for the tip.on my X its literally a matter of taking off the engine covers.after that the ignition coils are right there.only thinG i don't like in the TL is the transversly mounted v6, it makes it harder to get to the 3 closer to the windshield versus my X's inline 6 but i guess thats why man invented extensions.bulb changes in the headlights doesn't seem to bad from what i saw,not sure if the front bumper removal is required like the 3g tl.im looking forward to the 4G TL.i sat in both the tsx and TL and the TL just seems like a major step up.the instrument cluster, seats, push button ignition and everything.when i stepped in the tsx i was like WTF YOU STILL NEED A KEY?!!i also can't fit for anything in the rear seats of the tsx where the rear seats in the TL is like a second bed to me.

Even with the transverse mount the positioning gets the weight of the engine shifted to behind the shock towers as much as possible; car has a very nice balanced feel that compliments the AWD.

You'll not need to worry about changing the HID bulbs unless you just want color options, but I think that is a bumper off ordeal. The driving lights, fogs, etc. all snap right in and out.

Honda/Acura would tell you that you have 100k plugs in there; leave them alone and change with the timing belt. I know I've made a practice to change every 30k, and it does seem to wake up the engine a bit.

The TL back seat is plenty of room for a 6 foot adult with a 6 footer driving; and the seat sliding options give you enough travel to go almost coupe style and have plenty of front legroom when flying solo.

The only interior gripe people seem to have is the headrests - though they never have bothered me.

he Trunk on the TL ain't the greatest either, especially with AWD. It's a sports tourer, and it was definitely an afterthought to the rear cabin room and keeping that swooping roofline.
