Why does the pilot get a DOHC engine??

I can see Acura upgrading to the DOHC engine for the +22 MDX Mid-Model-Change (MMC). Don't know if the DOHC will be on all models after the MMC or just the Aspec and Adv models? The MMC seems to be the time Acura schedules a powertrain update for a model run (ICE, sh-awd, and/or trans update):
- MMC 06-08 TSX had 2.4L engine upgrades
- MMC 10-12 RDX offered a fwd version
- MMC 10-13 MDX had I.C.E. and transmission upgrades
- MMC 18-20 RLX had a battery pack upgrade, the fwd 3.5L RLX upgraded to 10AT
- MMC 17-20 MDX added the Sport Hybrid powertrain and software/hardware changes to 9AT
- MMC 06-08 TSX had 2.4L engine upgrades

Yes, I read somewhere that during Pilot launch, Honda has confirmed the MDX MMC will have the new DOHC engine.

You say jealous, others will be scrambling to get the current engine while they can.
It wouldn't feel like such a loss if the new engine offered considerably more power and/or better fuel economy. R.I.P. VTEC

The previous Gen RLX 3.5L was 310hp/272tq. Not sure why Acura didn't make that available for the Aspec and Advance 22-23 MDX?

ColoRDX, Yepper.... Like the EV issues, Only Fools RUSH IN !! I still don't get why Acura does not (and apparently will NOT) offer the MDX in a Sport Hybrid Model. mrgold35 and I are big advoctaes of that model;. I have a 22 MDX Advance and he has a 2019 Sport Hybrid MDX (I'm still a little jealous!!). It;s such a NO-Brainer and with our current illustriative WH Administrtaion and their Energy policy diving up the gasolione prices (they are going Up Again !!) - the Sport Hybrid makes soooo much sense for MPG and other reasons (more Power and Torque). IMHO, it is the Ideal SUV (and a RDX would make much sense too). They did it with the Honda CRV , the 2023 redesign looks lke a Baby Sister or Brother [pick your gender] - for that size of vehicle, the Hybrid is great !! No Plug Ins. Gas /Electric Hybrid is the way to go for NOW. There I said It!!

Competitive, But Not A World-Beater
Type S should have been a Turbo-Hybrid.
I have a 2016 Sport Hybrid RLX 377 BHP and a 2023 MDX-S 355 BHP. The turbo is really nice, but I miss the instantaneous torque from the AWD Hybrid assist in the RLX. The RLX motor is better, and Power:Weight is much better. MDX S with 355 HP ICE - and - additional 70 horsepower from mild hybrid would be a world-beater that truly earned the Type-S Flagship heritage. We all know this.
BTW, RLX Advance Sport Hybrid with the MDX-S interior would have been a world beater, too. On the inside, the RLX is a superb car camouflaged as a really nice Accord.
