Navigation Update

My 2022 MDX is currently running 2020.10.09 and I see that 2021.08.04 is available. Has anyone updated their version? Any problems or hints?

Download to a USB drive but it will take a long time.

I read somewhere that the download takes a long time. Did the update in the vehicle take long?

I left the USB on my computer but i will say at least 3 hours and another 3 hours to update in the car but you can just leave it in the car and a message will pop up once it finished downloading.

I did the update. Took about 40 minutes with a USB3.1 drive. I took a drive to grab some food, ate in my car, and drove home and it finished. I was still able to use my navigation and everything else. Updated in the background.

Hi, I encountered that problem when I first tried to download the Navi update. Try it again with a new Flash drive 32GB min. Then it worked and it downloaded quickly. PLug it in the MDX and as others have said, about 40 minutes it is uploaded into the cars system. Good Luck.

just did the update and it did take a long time.
Make sure you plug the USB with the new downloaded data into the port in the storage area between the seats, not the popup outlet next to the gear shift!
And just leave it in until you get a message on the screen that it is complete.
With my short around town drives it took over a week to download.

Thanks to everyone for the advice and tips. I will let you know how it goes. I am picking up a new memory stick this week and will try it on the weekend.

Maybe a dumb question, but I thought the MDX had over-the-air updates?
I had visions of installs magically happening overnight while parked in the garage... Like a Sonos or an iPhone.. Do we really need to pickup a floppy, er, memory stick?

Not for the navigation. I think over-the-air is only software updates for the other vehicle systems.

Took a while for mine to finishing updating, but then again, I didn't really drive anywhere for about a day and a half after popping in the USB drive. I drove to work yesterday, and it was still updating on the way there and during lunch. When I was driving home, the notice popped up on my screen saying the update was complete (verified by looking at the map version date).

I have no idea to how to check for what actually has changed from the 2021.03.18 version the car had, so I'll just have to trust that its maps, streets, locations, etc., are a lot more current. Otherwise, it looks exactly the same as it did since Day 1.

I stuck the stick in today and got the message that it was being updated. I took about 3 20 minute trips and no longer get the updating message when I go to the navigation screen. I didn’t see a message telling me it had completed downloading to the system but I may have missed it. When I look at the version it still shows the old version. Does the system download the files from the memory stick and then install them? Should I remove the usb stick?

Like @SMJR said, don't remove the USB stick. It will seem as if it's not doing anything but actually is still in progress and pulling out the stick might corrupt the install. Go to Navigation; tap the menu on the top right; tap on Map Version (or one of the other menu items) and it should say it's still installing. When it's done a successful installation message will appear.

Have had the usb stick in for about 5 days now. On occasion the “updating maps” still pops up. I have driven the vehicle 6-8 times for at least 20 minutes per trip. I still haven’t gotten the updates completed message and the version still shows the old one. Am I being too impatient? I loaded the maps onto a 256 gb stick. Would that make a difference instead of using a smaller one. There wasn’t anything else on it.

5 days does seem long. With you getting the "updating maps" pop-ups, though, it sounds like it's slogging along and still doing its thing. You might want to call Acura in-car tech support or dealership to get their thoughts on why it's taking so long. TBH, calling tech support almost always includes them saying to do a factory reset that erases a lot of personalized settings as one of the first things they tell you before doing a deep dive at the issue you're calling about and before they try walking your through a few things that don't work. (This doesn't just happen with Acura "tech support," of course. lol)

Thanks. I will give it a couple more days and see what happens.

I think every time you shut the car off “while the map update it running” it starts over. If true try letting it run for a good hour to let the update complete in full.

At first, I let the car sit in accessory mode (probably for a little over an hour straight) after I first plugged in the USB stick — until a "battery low" alert showed up on my instrument panel when I went to check up on installation progress. I was like, NOPE. Turned the car off and just left the USB plugged in to continue the next time I would be driving around.

It's funny what the Acura tech said when I asked about potentially draining the battery while the car is sitting in the garage and the installation is processing for who knows how long: She literally said (presumably with a straight face), "Don't worry about it. You can always call roadside assistance to come start your car." Are you serious? Tell me that when I get in the car ready to back out and go to work or somewhere that doesn't allow waiting hours for a man to show up to charge my car, especially fresh after a couple of inches of snow fell overnight. LOL, not LOL

Just to close this thread out, my map update finally completed today. I was stuck in traffic for approximately 45 minutes and I got the message that it was done. All my previous trips hadn’t been any longer than about 15 to 20 minutes.
