How's Your MPGs??

After only 2700 miles on the clock since August 20, I have to say, I'm disappointed in the MPGs. I have yet to achieve 24 or better on the highway. My 2019 MDX did up to 25 or slightly better doing 60-65 on the highway. I drove my new one a little harder on the Jersey Turnpike, say 75ish or do, and will get about 23.7 or so. And that's without major windy conditions. That's at least a 10% drop , even with Summer Gas which has less ethanol than winter gas around here. Strictly City/ Suburbia is topping at 13ish! The 2019 would get about 15. I would have thought that with an extra tranny gear, MPGs would have increased or at best stayed at the same level. However, I still love this bc vehicle.
What you folks seeing? What kind of gas do you use? I use Premium with 93 octane.

biggest disappointment with this car so far.

Although I’ve only been through two tanks, I’m seeing about 17 MPG with 75% city and 25% highway mix. However you can’t really call Long Island Expressway and Grand Central Parkway driving true “highway” driving. 😕

Even with the extra cog, the 4G actually has a higher gear ratio than the 3G in top gear. It’s 0.52 with a 4.17 final drive in the 4G vs 0.48 with a 4.33 final drive in the 3G.

Nybrianc, We must be "neighbors". I am retired now, 70, but what you described as Highway was my route in one form or another, commuting BEFORE COVID. I will add coming from Westchester County, about 1/3 shooting down 95 to the Grand Centyral Parkway - rarely too te Cross Island Parkway or the LIE.Sorry to you other Fine Folks out there for the kinda private response. My daily commute was about 42 miles each way, and was pretty much the same for the 20 years of my 48 years of working in the Finance /Banking Industry (Mortgage Loans). In my annal fashion, I would consitently "watch" the MPGs after each Gas Fill up.
In my 2019 MDX - I would get on average19 - 23 MPGs with 75% Highway / 25% Suburban which was Traffic Dependent. Average speed on tghe highway - generally about 50-55 MPH . I don't have the numbers for that commute for the 2022 MDX, but as I stated I am seeing 10% less just based on the Jersey Trnpke visiting the Grandkids in south Jersey , doing 65 -75/80 MPH with an aveage speed of about 68 MPH. When I did thge same with the 2019, I would get 10% better MPGs... I would see 24.3 - 25 MPGs (with the same Average Speeds -always using the same Premium Gas).
To be consistent and fair, I tend to Push the 2022 a bit harder (she Flys on the highway - I hit 75 -80 v ery easily), so on the next same trip, I will "feather" the throttle and do some Miling. I will try to keep the speeds at 65 MPH on the highway (which is 85% of the trip from Westchester County) , and do tge same on the Suburban streets (Rotes 38 and 70 in Jersey).
Happy New Year to All!!

If you ignore the difference in the tranny, this result sounds about right for a heavier MDX w/the same engine.

When Motor Trend said the new MDX was faster than the outgoing one, I immediately called BS.

Not as good as my 3rd Gen. The extra weight is to blame.

E92, and with the Winter Gas Blend used in my NY Area, it yields even Worse MPGs. But despite that sad truth, I still enjoy this MDX immensely. I still have not tried using 87 Octane gas for a couple of tank fulls. I will for the next 2 fill ups and see if there is a difference that another Poster indicated - 87 Octane was yielding high MPGs? I would think the opposite.

I use 93 Octane here in NC. 16.4mpg lifetime on ~770miles. 15.6mpg since last refuel. This is all suburban driving (35-55mph) with some stop and go traffic. The gas mileage is terrible, but I love my MDX.
