Question Is this a decent deal?

Hi All!
I am shopping for a new MDX Type-S Advance and my local dealer is offering a 2023 model for $70.2k, so about $4.2k off MSRP. Considering that 2024 models are out, is this a good discount? Is anyone willing to share what they paid for a 2024 S-Type Advance? I am paying cash if that makes any difference. The last car I bought was a 2012 TL in 2012, so I am a bit rusty when it comes to buying lol. Btw, I still have that TL and it's kicking strong

I just leased a 2024 MDX Advance Type-S. Negotiated their price from 78,800 down to 73,000 flat (below MSRP) and had all other dealer add-ons removed. 48mos and 15K miles per year, the payments are 1264/mo including all taxes.

yes. Paying cash makes a huge difference in how they will take advantage of you. Cash customer? They have no incentive to deal on price because since you’re not financing, the finance office has no opportunity to make any sales on top of the vehicle price.

best advantage: go ahead and deal on the price, finance the car, and refuse all the add ons in the finance office. Take your cash and pay the loan off in your first payment.

watch youtube car buying videos. They’ll advise never to reveal you’re a cash customer until it’s too late for the dealer to take advantage of you.

The most expensive MDX Advance Type S has an MSRP of $75,295 (w/destination). Looks like ADM of about $3500 was applied to make you think it was a great deal.

I wouldn't get excited about saving a bit over $2k on Acura's nod to the Germans.

That interesting because I always figured "cash is king" and that is the best way to get the best deal. Since the dealer is getting all their $ up front they are more willing to haggle.

That’s where the misunderstanding comes in. When they offer financing the dealer still gets their money up front (paid from the financing company) and they ALSO get a spiff from the financing arm. Thus why they always prefer financing unless the buyer can’t get approved for financing. We have a debt based society where financing is heavily incentivized in many sectors to make more money off of people.

I looked into it as you said and yup, they get kickbacks. I have always financed, and would add extra to my payments. Take a 60 month finance deal and add extra each month to pay it off sooner, or just close it out early. Even if I have cash in hand, Its nice to leave a chunk in bank for a rainy day. As my father taught me growing up in Newark, everyone needs their cut

Better deals out there if you put some work into it. Just purchased a 2024 a spec in CA for ~6,750 below MSRP. No rebates or incentives.

Agreed Big Time. It Does take Effort for sure. I am a Shopper and have benefited from same for all my cars since a new 1988 Mitsubishi Galant! I could tell lots of stories, but many people don't have the "stomach" to do it ! Particularly after the salesman sees your silly smile after the test Drive. You really need to do it LIVE in the Dealer, not over Phones or Internet. Dunn05 - you did real well, man. Congrats.

Reading the levels of excitement about the Type S has "wet" my appetite. I have a 22 MDX Advance leased in 8/2021 (actually got a decent deal considering the Supply Line BS and that the car just about came out). My lease ends next August 2024. I really like the MDX (I reserve Love for people) in just about all respects {the TTIP is still a Bitch that I have learned to Live with). The TYPE S ws not out yet at that time. I have just received "incentive" emails from my dealer to Trade in my MDX with only a shade under 15K Miles on the clock. I'm retired at 72 YO, and only use the MDX locally and for those occasional Grandpa trips to see family. Do I need a 3 Row SUV, Not really at all. But it's such a terrific SUV - comfortable, handles superbly, great creature comforts, etc. Although I'm not really looking to Upgrade at this time, IF a tempting deal should come across my desk for a 2023 TYPE S, I might be interested. I'm a Shopper with No Urgency, so perhaps I could start to put out Feelers for such a Deal. One Caveat and a Spoiler is the new wave of Price Increases for Gas coming our way!! And I have a Non - Car Enthusiast wife to content with! We will see....

If you want fuel economy, put the money you would have put on an MDX Type S into a fully-loaded X5!

You would need at least 10% off the MDX Type S MSRP for it to become a "value" preposition against the Germans.

Elin. Just priced a fully loaded X5 4.0i with the executive package. From what I can determine On Line, don't see massaging seats, air Suspension or some of the other Goodies in the Type S. Yes, 4 MPGs better than the Type S - BMW engages a Light Hybrid system that boosts HP and Torque (Acura - are you paying attention!!). It prices out - without major upgrades at $76,000 w/o Destination Charges. Here is a quick Review by this Canadien Couple :
.

The BMW will have more expensive service costs and I would investigate the previous model's service records. Notwithstanding MPGs which perhaps I am making too big of an issue of, at this stage, I will stand pat and see what may "develop" from Acura Offers to Induce me to make a deal for a new 2024 TYpe S. Or even better perhaps a demo 2023!

You are in the drivers seat so yes wait for the opportune time regarding the Type S. For a short period of time when the 2023 inventory had built up (May and June) and and the 2024's were imminent Acura for the first time included the Type S for the $1,500 loyalty and added $750 lease loyalty as well. At this time they have reverted to not offering these incentives on the Type S. I would recommend test driving one and advise your dealer after the drive to contact you when Acura offers the incentives again. You may have to be patient but my bet is before year end it might happen. However, keep the smile off of your face after the test drive while talking to the salesman !!!

Pens Fan, A Very Good Idea!! I'm sure holding back the Smile will be difficult !! For the time being, I think I will put my MDX into Sport Mode and hit the DS mode on the Tranny!! PS: With true economics involved, it may behoove me to wait for the Buyout at $38.4 K August 2024, Buy it for that, pay the Taxes on that amount (SOB, Sales Taxes !!) equates to about $2700. With an anticipated 20K miles on the clock, the MDX should be worth Circa - $50K . A 2 year old MDX Advance with 20K miles.

I was going to pay cash, but they insisted I finance (they admitted they will make extra $). Since I was getting such a good deal (new 2024 MDX Type S Adv under 70k) I agreed and financed the entire amount; a couple of weeks later I paid off the balance. My credit score did take a 20-30 point hit, but I'm sure it'll soon go right back up.
