Yokohama AS530

Does anyone have any experience with these tires? Want to know how they hold up (miles, noise, etc)?

The AS530 is one of Discount Tire's "special" tires, and the Internet has some fake reviews of this tire. Accordingly, I would suggest you avoid this tire at all costs.

There are plenty of inexpensive all-season tires with excellent performance and longevity. The brand-new Sumitomo HTR A/S P01(W) looks promising:

Yeah that is what I was thinking. I've done some more research and based on what I want to spend, I'm looking at the following.

Yokohama Avid W4s
GoodYear Eagle GT
BF Goodrich Gforce Super Sport A/S
Falken 912
Toyo Proxy 4
Sumitomo HTR A/S P01(W)

I'm looking for something that doesn't have alot of road noise and will provide a good tread life.

Hey John,
I just installed the Yoko W4s a couple of weeks ago and they are super quiet. I got them off an ebay store who happened to be local. Got them installed for $449 OTD.
He has another set for sale (see link below). They are a size larger than stock, but couldn't beat the price.

Out of the above choices, I would not hesitate to go with the Sumitomo, although if snow traction isn't important the Avid W4S is a long-time favorite at Acurazine.

All your other choices are inferior tires. The Eagle GT doesn't last long, especially if you do a lot of highway travel. The Eagle GT also has sub-par winter traction. The GeForce Super Sport A/S is sub-par in the wet and has a harsh ride. The Falken 912 is subpar in the winter. The Proxy 4 is crap, and it is based upon old technology.

Keep in mind Yokohama has refreshed the W4S with its new UHP A/S tire, the AVID ENVigor(W):

The AVID ENVigor should have the same excellent wet & dry grip of the W4S but improved winter handling.

Finally, don't rule out the best UHP A/S for wet & wintery conditions, the Continental ExtremeContact DWS.

The continental DWS was actually at the top of my list. But, it is on back order everywhere until June. I live in Dallas so really don't see any snow, just ice for a few days/weeks of the year. I typically only drive city miles (very little highway). I was hoping to get a tire in this class with a mileage warranty (if possible). The sumi and neither of the Yoko's offer a mileage warranty. But, if the ride is quiet and the reviews are positive I may just consider them.

I have run the General Exclaim UHPs for a season now and wear is good and noise is minimal.

I am actually replacing my Exclaim UHPs. I only got 15,000 miles out of them - I'm pretty surprised since they get pretty good reviews. I really have problems with them when it is wet - not the best traction. They are starting to get pretty load as well.

Was all your presures right and alignment ok? A lot of times the noise comes from feathering due to abnormal wear.

The tires actually are wearing straight across (nothing looks adnormal). I've always had my car aligned everytime my tires were rotated (every 6000 miles) and really didn't have any alignment issues. The only issue I could have is trusting my TPMS - because I went by what it said vs. checking the old fashion way (getting lazy I guess). It's a 2006 TL and would think the TPMS would be pretty accurate. Maybe I got a bad set up General's.

Ok.... mine is also a 06 ... As far as I can see the TPMS is to tell you if you have a tire going down past a certain limit but I have found the TPMS not to be that accurate against the gauges I have.

I guess trusting my TPMS could really be an issue. When you use your gauge and then check that against what your TPMS (computer) is telling you - is there a big difference? I think on this set of tires, I'm going to go back to using a gauge. Is there a way to see if my TPMS could be off?

i can vouche for the sumitumo's above and also there other all season tires. I can also vouce for the falken ziex series tires as well. They all have great longetivitiy and as far as comfort, if thats what you mainly care for and not so much super cornering and etc I would go with sumitumos.

Both the Sumitomo and Yokohama tires have 40K and 45K mileage warranties respectively, however, in terms of manufacturer's defects Sumitomo's warranty appears superior.

The Yokohama ENVigor's UTQG treadwear rating is extremely high for its class, but it received only an "A" rather than "AA" for wet-breaking which is disconcerting -- however, Yokohama supposedly did an independent test and it beat out other "A" wet-breaking tires, such as the Pilot Exalto A/S. The Yokohama ENVigor has a 30-day test-drive period.

In fact, after reading up more on the ENVigor, it looks like it's marketed towards a grand-touring category rather than UHP Performance.

What about the Pirelli PZero Nero A/S?

I've got the Yokohama AS530. They were on the car when I bought it 5000 miles ago. I have no complaints. I live in UT, it's been OK in light snow, OK when it's wet, quiet on the freeway, and the sidewalls are relatively stiff. Strickly speaking, I've only expierenced the tires this winter. No summer driving yet.
No comment on how long they will last or if they will get louder as time goes by.

i ordered a set of yokohama advan s4...i will report back when they install them and let you all know....

i was looking at all sorts of other tires

eagle gt, bad feedback on these tires as far as noise
continental extreme contact dws, no one has them in stock
bridgestone 960, too expensive
yokohama yk 520, not sporty enough...

there were some others, but overall, the advan s4 had the best overall ratings and feedback of all the other tires in the same price range...

I'm guessing that the ADVAN S.4. is actually a superior performing tire than the new AVID ENVigor. Certainly Yokohama's naming convention would support as much, since the ADVAN line includes the highest-performing tires in Yoko's lineup.
