Winter wheels?
Winter wheels?
I know it early but I am starting to think about the upcoming winter. I have stock rims with Falken Ziex ze512's. Almost impossible to find a good winter tire in a 17. Was wondering if stock tl 16 rims would fit on a 05 tl. This would allow me a a larger variety of winter tire, and a higher profile to stand up to the pot Holes here in the east. Any Thoughts?

My local dealer here near Montreal is selling those for $75.00 for Original Steel Wheels which is a very decent price.
One word of caution, there are aftermarket steel wheels for the TL offered on the market but stay clear of them as they are designed to fit other cars also and their Pilot Hole is bigger then what the TL needs. For the uninitiated, the Pilot hole function is to keep the wheel perfectly centered when the wheel nuts are properly tightened. If the pilot hole is too big and without the use of center rings adapter, the wheel will become off centered and will vibrate.
I learned this the hard way 5 years ago on my 2000 Odyssey when I was blindsided by my tire dealer who I had ordered 4 OE Steel Wheels along with 4 winter tires. After installing them, they needed to be re-centered every weeks, are real PITB. After a month of this, I bought some OE wheels from Honda and scrapped the aftermarket wheels and that tire dealer has lost over $5,000 worth of business since.

Thanks for the great info. $75 sound much better for a set of winter wheels. I aware of the centering problem with aftermarket wheels. Most do come with a centering ring designed to center the wheel for different applications. Thanks again

I was never offered these centering rings with my steel wheels back then and by our current conditions, it looks like there will only be a cost difference of less then $80 with all taxes in between the aftermarket and the OE steel wheels.
I will be shopping for new snow tires soon as my prefereed brand is always in a limited supply and if I wait for the weather to turn cold, I might not get what I want.
