Winter Tires Question

OK so since living in the the Northeast and dealing with the crappy weather we always get over her in the winter time I was considering throwing on some winter tires on my stock 17inch 08 type s wheels. I'm gonna be using this set pretty much like 5-7 months out of the year so functionality has to be a plus. I would like a decent set that gets me through the snow when it comes around but doesn't sacrifice ride quality. Right now I am ok because the weather is decent and Im in the market for a new set of summer tires and wheels anyway. My main concern was what type of winter tire should I get for my stock wheels when the crappier weather comes around? Thanks guys!!

Continental makes a good tire as suggested above. I also have run Blizzak LM25's and they were awesome.

This talk of winter tires now that winter is over with is depressing

The Michelin Pilot A/S has served me well for many years

I got some Michelin Primacy Alpins (new name for Pilot Alpin) which is a performance winter tire and the dry handling was just as good as my MXM4 all-seasons. As for snow/ice/slush/etc the grip was way better than the all seasons. This is the tire to get if you want a winter tire but don't want to sacrifice dry handling. The hardcore winter tires like the X-Ice and the Blizzaks are probably even better in snow but horrible on dry.

I used the Hankook W409. they are very well priced and perfome very well and is very quiet. On my last 2 cars I had Michelins which cost atleast 25% more. They are also very, very good tires but now that I know I would not spend the extra money.

Just get base wheels for winter. Everyone sells them for dirt cheap.

You can't go wrong with blizzaks. I'm planning on putting blizzaks on my stocks this winter. Aspec wheels for the summer. I'm in NY btw.
