Does anyone know if the 20x8.5 5/114.3 will fit 2005 TL.

8.5" is the width of the wheel. Offset is also one of the determining factors for fitnent, along with the center bore.
The 235/30 requires a 8"-9" wide wheel while the 255/30 should be installed on a 8.5"-9.5" wheel.

Here's some reading:

Take some time and look over the site as there is a wealth of information available.

My opinion is that an 8.5" wide wheel with a 35 offset will move the wheels 5/8" out farther which would interfere with the fender, especially with the larger tires.

which tire do you plan to run

235/30-20 requires no rolling
245/30-20 requires rolling or -1.5 degree negative camber
255/30-20 requires -2 degree negative camber and fender rolling

20x8.5 +35 all around with tein and 235 series tire should not rub

the 235 stands for the tread width

tread width/sidewall width/diameter
