Why does the TL look so goofy with Aftermarket wheels

I usually like aftermarket wheels, however IMO the TL just not look right with many of the choices out there. What is about the car that makes it look so cheezy when non oem's are installed?

OMG, finally someone who see the same thing I do. I've seen many many TL here and none look as good as lets say a TL with oem wheels and a simply spoiler. To my eyes the TL looks best with 5 spoke oem rims.

um...i don't know what you're talking about, but there are some TLs on here that have GORGEOUS wheels that compliment the car very well.

i think in order for the wheel to compliment the car, you'd need:
1) the right size wheel (19-20s are PERFECT)
2) the right drop (anywhere from a 1 finger gap to tucked)
3) a clean design
4) not too much chrome, if at all...(that's just my opinion)

take a look at people w/ the RonJon Legends, Iforged, some Volks....there's a pretty decent sized list of nice rims on TLs.

I don't know... The other day for grins and giggles, I installed my G35 rims (which have been sitting in my garage for 2.5 years now), to see how they look on the TL. I thought it actually looked pretty good. I may consider getting the right size tires for them, and running them on the TL.

I think the 2006 OEM 5 spoke silver wheels look great. IMO. I almost had the dealer

swap my 06 wheels when I bought my 07 TL-S. But didn't, wanted the new tires and

thought the 07 TL-S wheels would grow on me...NOT... I WILL get a set of 19" wheels

with a polished lip and a silver center.

Acually that is the only wheel I even considered, over my A-specs, but I did not know if they would fit since I have the 6MT.

I have to say I really like the Infinity wheels on the TL

I think in most cases, car designers do a pretty good job of putting decent looking wheels that look right on the car, right from the showroom floor. Not that they look perfect, just not bad. I have never even thought about Aftermarket wheels for any of the previous cars I've owned...and that's a LOT of cars.

That being said, the 07 TLS wheels almost kept me from buying the car. To me (and apparently to a lot of other owners) they just do not flow with the overall sleek, sophisticated look. So for the first time in my life, I felt compelled to seek aftermarket wheels. I'm not looking to improve the handling, nor do I want to drastically change the appearance of the car. I just wanted wheels that asthetically FIT the car. (Funny but these same wheels do look great on Honda Accords and on Civics...go figure.)

Now if I were looking to make the TLS look distinctive, or was big-time into performance upgrades, I think aftermarket wheels are KEY to achieving those goals, and some of the guys on this site have found some GREAT LOOKING wheels. No matter what wheels guys have chosen, there are people who love them and people that hate 'em too. But that's part of expressing your individualism, and as the old saying goes, ya can't please everyone...so please yourself.

As for GOOFY...I have to disagree in many, many cases with that statement. There are some fantastic looking cars in this site that have been upgraded with tasteful wheels that do indeed look good to me. To each their own...

I think the wheel gap has a lot to do with how goofy some cars may look... I think a lot of cars would look a little better with a drop of some sort because I do agree that there are rims out there that look a little awkward and I think the wheel gap/height of the car is what's aesthetically unsettling about some of the rims in question... of course there are ugly wheels out there, as well, but I think most TL owners (at least people who post on here) have very good taste and are above fugly rims

Take a look at this thread

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...9&page=1&pp=25

Throw out the 04-06 oem and A-spec wheels, the couple of cars with Works wheels and it looks like a contest to see who can come up with the ugliest TL.

I guess I should have stated that I'm no fan of the 07 oem, type S wheels either. Honda really blew that. It just seems to me that very few wheels really enhance the look of the TL. True there are many nice looking wheels out there. but for some reason they don't compliment the TL like they do on other cars. For me it's hard to beat the original A-spec or the Works wheel that several members have. After that I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

that's what I couldn't put my finger on... it's hard to find wheels that compliment the car (I think a drop does help with certain wheels) you are right, tho, some of the rims in that link are eyesores

Which Works wheel are you talking about?

You don't like the Volk GT-S ? How about the Work Varianza?

What about the Axis Hero in silver? Whats your opinion on these ???

there are too many goofy car owners who spend time & money goofing up their rides.
but you have to have good taste to choose the TL, you've gotta give them that at least.
it's tough to find the perfect wheels but if you have good taste, you'll keep searching

I would assume that since they clear the brembos on the G35, they should clear the brembos on the TL.

Please do. I'd love to some sweet looking TL's. I've looked around this site for years and have not seen the Wow factor I'm looking for. Perhaps you can help me see the light. Thanks

I dunno... I sold my TE-37s for my GT-Ss.

TL's a four door luxury sports sedan. TE's are a bit rice rocketish to me, belong on 350z's and other sport coupes. They're like wearling basketball shoes in a nice tailored suit.

Like others have said, not all good looking wheels look right on all cars. When wheel shopping, you really need to able to photoshop the wheels directly onto a pic of your car to see if they look right. Just seeing them on a rack in a wheel shop or in a pic online is not enough, unless you are able to visualize very well.
