When to replace shocks

Is there a certain mileage where the struts start to lose there dampening and the car feels loose. I have 55000 miles on my car. I checked out everything : alignment, tire pressure, etc. The car just seems more sloppy than before. Not tight and sharp. Is it the shocks? Please help

No mileage interval as to when the shocks need to be replaced on a vehicle. If deterioration in ride quality is noticed, have the suspension examined to check for any evidence of leakage. Contrary to popular belief a shock/strut will last for many, many miles and never need replacement.
