Wheel Sizing

Hi guys, I looked through the sticky posts but couldn't quite find what I was looking for.

Basically, I have stock wheels currently on my 04 AT tl, with tires to fit (obviously). Looking to get some new rims that will fit to the stock sized tires... When I look up wheels to fit my car they give me sizes ranging from 7in width, to 8.

When I looked up the car's specs, it states the stock wheels are 17 x 8.

So do I'm guessing I'm looking for that exact size? Just odd that they show me wheels of dif sizes and say it'll work.

Thanks!

I wouldn't go narrower than 8 ins, you could go 8.5....also you want 5X114.3mm bolt pattern and an offset somewhere around +45....more important if u have 6 speed (bigger brakes). good luck!

Sorry - I'm super lost now.. I should get rims with a larger width than the current tires?

Sorry...no...I said you "could" go to an 8.5 rim...just to give you options....8 or 8.5inch is fine with a 235mm tire.

235mm tires have a range from 7.5" width to 9" width for the rim

there are pros and cons for either going smaller than 8" or larger than 8" width... it depends on what you are after... if mainly for looks then larger is always better

there are arguments on performance which I wont get into.. part of that is because I am still learning and the other part is it starts a slippery slope

I also should add when you look up wheels the main thing stores look for is center bore which is 64.1 and the bolt pattern which is 5x114.1

if you want to keep the same tires then choose any wheels that are 7.5" to 9" in width

Bolt pattern is actually 5x114.3. It is shown as both 5x114.3mm or as 5x4.5in.
