Wheel size & Offset
put it this way our off set is 55! I haven't heard of anything going on the TL that is less than 45 and still when thoes cars are lowered they tend to rub the fenders.
Plus thoes example are 18's and 19's
the problem is the wheel will be too far away from the hub, and will be outside the fenders, sticking out from the car's wheel well. so when the car goes over a bump the wheel won't bounce up into the wheel well, it will go up into the fender.. You hear of people having a finger or a finger and a half (like myself) on top of their tires. The wheel is still stock, the offset is 55, so when I go over bumps, the wheel still has four or five (maybe more) inches between the top of the tire and the wheel well.
So as you lower the offset from the stock setting (55) the tire will move close to the outside of the car, and if the offset is too low (in your case, if you lower with thoes rims) the outside top of the tire will bounce up into the fender.
I think a 45 will work , but I'm met a TL owner today who owns a Alingment and RimTire store. He told me he had "Motegi"(spelt horribly wrong) 18's on his '99 TL with an offset of 42 , and he had to cut some of th plastic wheel well out so the tires didn't rub, I have heard of other guys "rolling their fenders" which basically means they hit the fenders with a baseball bat, flatening the inside of the fender (doesn't affect the appearance on the outside).
Hope that helped.

Offset is +45
I'm guessing the 20 x 8.5 with a +40 offset might work.
