what's up people?
just bought a 2003 TL-S and let me say i've have it for two weeks and i love it! best purchase ever!
here's my deal . . . i want to drop a set of new wheels on it. axis seven mod 18x7.5. however, these wheels have a large offset and i don't want the front tires rubbing the inner wall. i think they have either a 35mm or a 42mm offset but i'm not sure which.
does anyone know how large of an offset i can get without having any problems? how large have you gone if you have aftermarket wheels on the TL?
thx

Those offsets would NOT work! you need at LEAST at +45 offset. I think the stocks are +55?? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But you do need at least a +45 and trimming the fender tabs in order not to rub. I think + 50 is prime.
Congrats on your purchase.

wrong! they can work. kman156 has axis se7en mods in 18's. send him a Private Message. im sure he will help you out. also, be aware that he had to roll the rear fenders in order for htem to fit w/o rubbing.

The wheels will work, NOT the offset. You can get the same wheels with a higher offset, but the 37mm offset won't work.
I have 18's for my summers and they work, but they are +45 with a rolled fender and fender tabs cut.

so the 42mm offset will NOT work? what if my ride is not lowered, stock height? no suspension upgrades (yet).
maybe the 19x8 will work. they have a 45mm offset.
any thoughts......?

42 is on the low side if you get 18x7.5 with 225/40s. i have this setup on my 02 tl-s with a prokit drop and camber correction in the rear. it rubbed a little bit when i had pirelli p7000ss tires so i had to trim some of the plastic on the rear bumer that becomes part of the wheel arch. i was good until i had to replace tires. now with the same sized bridgestone re750s, i rubbbed the metal fender lip and will need to complete by shaving the lip off. at stock height, i think you should be ok. if you don't want to bother or intend on lowering, you might want to get something with a higher offset.
19x8 with a 45 offset is the same as the above. you need at least a 50 offset on 8" wide rims. 235/35 should be ok, but you can go with 225s. again, you might be ok if you don't lower.

it also depends on what tire size u use. i have 18 by 7.5 with a 45 offset on 235/40/18
i had to trim the tabs
if u go with a 225/40/18 tire, then u won't have problems with a 45 offset
if u wanna go with a 42 offset on a 7.5 wide tire, then u MUST use 225/40/18 or 225/45/18.

I'm waiting on my rims, but they are going to be 19x8 w/ +50mm offset riding on 235/35/19 and that is the biggest you can go on this car...at least that is what I heard and seen so far. I'm talking about rims with a drop.
