Whats the widest tire i can go with?
I have a 2008 acura tl type s 6mt and im looking to get new tires that will be strickly for summer. i want to maximise the grip for the car. i definetly want to go at least to a 245 tire. but is anything else bigger attainable with out rubbing at a full lock turn. car will be siting on gold enkei rpf1's and on function form type 2's with the eibach ers springs. any and all input is well appreciated. thanks

Here's a 255/40 NT05 on my car:
1.5" lower than stock. However, even if it hits the bump stops it doesn't rub.

I don't mean to discourage you because those tires are fine. But IMO if you're looking for the absolute best ultra high performance summer only tire, the Nitto NT05 and Bridgestone Direzza Star Specs are about the only choices IMO. Both will give similar dry performance. The NT05 will hold up longer lap after lap under a heavy TL. The NT05 is quieter, about as quiet as stock and has a decent ride yet razor sharp turn-in. Both will grip and perform better than any other street legal summer tire.

hmm i will consider going with the 255 for sure now. i would go with an extreme performance summer tire but im looking to have a decent amount of tread wear with good ride comfort. would you recommend a 40 or 45 side wall?
also are you using a camber kit on the car at all? im considering getting both front and rears for when i lower the car but dont know if its worth the money. but i dont want any camber issues with the new setup.

The Dunlops have 9/32" tread so that's something to consider.
I don't run camber kits. My fronts are within spec and the rears are just barely out. In fact, I think it's just the right side that's a tenth of a degree out. Basically any Honda product will wear the inside edge of the tires even when stock if you leave the tires in the same position long enough. I just got new front tires and the rears were replaced only 2,000 miles ago. I had the new tires put on the front since they always wear out the quickest but I had them take the rears off the rims and flip them around, that way the inside is now the outside. Pretty much the only way you're going to maintain even wear on a directional tire.
I'm not saying a camber kit is not worth the money, at least on the rear.

OP, a lot of guys here have run a 255/40 with pretty good success. That's the widest tire that you can fit on the OEM width even remotely safely. I haven't really heard of anyone having problems but I can't imagine you would get even wear with a 255. I feel like the tire would bow out a little bit. You ideally need a 8.5 or 9 inch wheel for a 255. But like I said, a lot of guys are doing it and like it. I just don't think getting a lot of mileage out of the tires is going to happen. That's your call. I will say that if you run a 255/40 and your stock height, you definitely won't rub, but your wheel gap may look .
My suggestion would be to get a 245/45 tire. That's what I'm running and I'm really happy with it. Gives me a little extra width but it is still very driving friendly. I'm getting a good ride and even wear on all four tires. I think I Hate Cars said it, and it's EXTREMELY true, that the tire brand, quality, and composition is going to be the deciding factor in your traction, not the width. The extra 10 or 20 mm's that you get with a wider tire aren't going to do ANYTHING if you don't get a good tire. My suggestion would be to get a 245/45 in a really good tire. That's just my . I would take I Hate Car's advice whatever it is... the guy knows his stuff. But ultimately it's your decision.
