What's the consensus on DD shocks?

I have an '06 6MT on stock suspension. I picked up a set of Eibach Pro Kit springs for $100 and I'd like to put them on a set of "better than stock" shocks. I'm not looking for track days or anything like that, just something affordable for every day driving. I figure these are the options:

A-Spec
Type-S
KYB

Thoughts?

Man, thats like $600+. Not worth picking up a used Type-S setup?

OK OK, I don't want to be the guy that asks for advice and then doesn't want to listen to it. Let me just ask one thing.

How do the stock Type-S shocks compare to the Koni's for regular daily driver duty?

Type S shocks are firmer than base shocks. A-spec are firmer than Type-S shocks. Konis are pretty close to A-specs on soft or slightly firmer than Type-S shocks. The beauty of the konis is since they have rebound adjustments you can use them with any spring rate and adjust the damping to match the spring rate.

Really, it's hard to compare Konis directly to stock shocks. They're a completely different design so it's not just firmer or softer. They control body and suspension movement much better but without feeling harsh or too firm.

If you plan on going with an OEM shock for more performance, I would skip the TL-S shocks and get the A-specs.

Great info, thanks. I didn't realize the A-spec were firmer than the Type-S. It looks like a bit of work to do the rears, so I'm thinking I might as well save up and do the Konis.

My honest opinion is Konis are worth it if you like the tunability. You can run a race spring and turn the Konis up to match or you can run them with stock springs and put them on full soft to match. If you're running a near stock rate spring, a-spec will work fine.

The nice thing about the Konis is they ride very good for the amount of control they have. They do their job without being harsh.

If you choose to upgrade the swaybars later on, it's nice to be able to adjust the rebound damping on the konis. Mine pitched side to side on bad pavement when I installed the stiff swaybars. But turning the damping up on the Konis, the car actually rode better and cornered better.

I don't think I'm that picky, to be honest. I'm going to pair these with the Eibach Pro-Kit springs and I don't want to go through all that work to simply put them on stock shocks. I'll keep an eye out for A-Specs or Konis. My car is a 6MT so I think it has the beefier swaybars?
