What tires do you recommend?

I am planning on getting 18 inch Ron Jon rims soon, and I really like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires, but $500+ for a whole set is kind of steep. Can anyone recommend any tires that aren't as expensive? They need to be all seasons, and the most important aspects to me are of course how well they do traction wise (gripping dry road and wet... and handle sufficient in the snow) and have a long enough life for someone who drives their car pretty hard. Ride quality and stuff is in second behind lifespan and traction features. If anyone else knows what other aspect in tires is important, let me know, but those two are the first two that come to mind.

Thanks

I have the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S tires. Very happy with them - haven't driven with them in snow. I've heard nothing but praise for the Pilot Sport A/S tires, but they are quite a bit more expensive.

Try Continental ContiExtreme Contacts. They are OEM in the new Jags and heve good reviews in the Tirerack.

The treads on the Pirelli tires are nice looking, and they got good reviews. But they seem to be around 125 a tire. Unless I am reading it wrong. I don't understand the sizing/pricing guidlines. If it has an 18 at the end, its 18 inch, right? And what is SL/XL for? As well as the other numbers. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks

The Pilot Sport's are easily the best tires I've owned in terms of overall performance and ride quality. Michelin's aren't cheap, but they are great tires.

18 at the end is the wheel diameter. I think the XL refers to a higher load rating.

Yep, and I would love a set of them. I really don't want to spend over 300 bucks though

Falcon Azenis. Had them on my 02 TLS. Best tire ever. No nise, they look great and you can get 30k miles from them. They are for summer, no snow, but they are also great in the rain. The grip and feel and the whole driving dinamics on my TL changed when I got them. The difference is noticeable immediatly. You will not be disapointed. Just my two cents.

I going with the Pirelli's when I get the wheels form Ronjon as well. I am just trying to figure out if I am going to put 245/40 or 255/35 on. I was looking at the Kumho ASX but I am sticking with the Pirelli's as they have been great on my MDX.

GaleForce,

Have you spoke to Ron lately?

Yep, I speak to him everday. Granted, it isn't always about wheels, sometimes I let him revisit is immaturity :P

Anyway, ask Ron what he thinks you should use tire wise... he would know.

Btw, the wheels are on their way. He said it in another thread but I am just confirming it. I am guessing it won't be too long.
