want to drop the ride...

i was thinking i want to drop my car just a little and was looking into the Eibach Pro Kit Excelerate was selling on the group buy section. I was wondering if it would be okay to use those with the stock shocks i have or will it run a risk of blowing them? Would my ride quality dramatically worsen?

I have an 08 Type S

thanks a lot!

oh yeah, what is the most cost effective way to lower the car without sacrificing ride quality?

Stop procastinating and just get coilovers. Springs is like eating appetizers ... you're just gonna want more soon.

people are always bitching how everyone should get coilovers. Springs will be just fine.

That's ridiculous. Other users tend to recommend coilovers, that is all. The "always bitching" your talking about just doesn't happen.

Shocks are a wear item. Lowering on OE shocks will increase rate of wear vs OE ride height. In that duration, yes, your car will be fine. But if you look at the cost of good perf. shocks, and springs, your already somewhat near the cost of Tein Basic coilovers for example. Especially if your looking at Koni yellows.

I would say Koni yellows (adjustable perch) and H&R Sports would be a great shock/spring combo as far as ride quality.

I have the same car....with the Eibach Pro-Kit and OEM shocks. It's been almost a year and I've had no issues.....ride is great, cornering is greatly improved, tracks well.
The Eibach kit is a mild enough drop @ ~1", that accelerated shock wear is minimal.....a non-issue. In fact, I'd bet that the shocks will last almost as long as if they were paired with the OEM springs. If it were a more radical drop of 2" or more, then I would say that new shocks are a must right off the bat.

BTW...we have coilovers with our OEM set up....they're all coilovers (as in coil spring over shock). Adjustable coilovers are the typical upgrade....only neccessary IMO if you are constantly fiddling with ride height, damping/rebound etc...

Personally, I will probably be purchasing a set of Koni Yellows soon....not because my OEMs are wearing out, but because I want a little bit of adjustability.

Anyways, here's what you can expect your car to look like with the Eibach kit...

Ramrod,

Thanks for setting the record straight. They said the same thing about my other car. I put just springs on (1" drop) and ran the oem shocks. I've got 50k miles on it now and what do you know, the oem shocks aren't worn out yet.

H&R Sport Springs, OE Shocks.

1 year, 13,500 miles = no problems.

I started with A Spec then went eibach and switched to Tein because Eibach rode like a buckboard, Tein appears to have a similar spring rate to A spec and ride change very similar to A spec

Hey Bearcat,

Would you mind posting up a nice side profile pic like ramrod did so that we can see the drop on the H&R sports compared to the Eiback pro kit?

Thanks,

Al

Did the first picture taker turn the wheel cause you're not that happy with the front drop? Reason I ask is because I used to do that with my accord so it wouldn't be as noticeable that there was more gap in front than back.

I would say it depends on your goal. I've gone cheap springs that I even cut on stocks (bouncy and crap), H&R's on stocks wasn't bad...then megan fully adjustable coilovers and now Tein SS. It's the natural progression of things if you have the funds to do it. If not, springs will get the job done. I CAN say that with TEIN's and NO finger gap, a perfect drop IMO, the ride only suffered slightly from the a spec. Not too harsh at all.

My 2 cents.

I would say go with coilovers. You will not regret it one bit. Only thing I regret is going with springs before getting my D2 coilovers. If you dont like how low you are, just raise it up, if you dont like how high you are, just lower it. Too stiff? Adjust it and same for being not stiff enough

I am sooo with you on this...only difference is my lessons learned were over the course of many cars. Finally got it right and won't be cheaping out ever again.

Here's a before and after from the same angle:

No actually....that's just the way I happened to park it when I took the pic. I found another pic with the wheels straight.

My car sits with a very slight rake front to back...I love it. I think because the Eibach kit has an even drop all the way 'round and the front wheel openings are slightly larger than the rears, may give an impression that the car "sags" in the rear or that there is a larger gap in the front, especially when parked nose first on an incline....but it's not the case.
More importantly though is the way the car now handles...much better than stock IMO. I've used Eibach kits in the past...always been a big fan. Although I did consider the H&R Sports at one point but the drop is slightly lower and I didn't want my car to be a snowplow in the Winter! But the H&Rs do look good!
