Type-S Upper Mount (Top Hat) Kit

i ordered the type-s upper mount (top hat) kit from heeltoe for my 05 base TL. i needed them for my coilovers so i figured i might as well get the type-s kit with the upgraded rubber bushings. this kit will work on my base TL - correct?

Check the "Rear Shock Absorber" assembly for rear part numbers.

Only way you'd know for sure is if you ONLY changed the top hats. With your new shocks/springs any difference will jsut be part of the overall improvement.

Im not being lazy, it's just that I got confused with all the part numbers on the diagram. Not sure which to choose. There are several rubber shock absorber. Thanks!

Number 18 in the link below for the front.

On that site, look up the "Rear Shock Absorber" and then the part in the same position for the rear; Item #20 in the Rear Shock diagram.

Question : for the base owners can we just buy the bushings and not the entire kit to save cost?

^Yes, you will need 8 of the bushings for all 4 corners.

Correct. But, imho, it's probably not worth doing unless you're going to have the car mostly torn down anyhow. It's a good bit of work to do for modest improvement. When you're already replacing shocks/springs, etc., is the very best time, imho.

I believe there is a positive impact, but it's "gravy" to a good suspension, not a main course.

Thanks for the info...

It looks like the front ones are part#: 51631-SEP-A01 for: $15.47

and the rear ones are part #: 51631-SEP-A01 also for: $15.47

There are listed for an 08 TL. I have an 04, will it still be ok?

Each shock absorber takes two of these though. Do you guys know if they sell in pairs? I think they should since you need two per shock.

Not sure though...

One last thing... I should be able to find tophats at a junkyard, no?

I agree. I had to take my TEIN SS and put my stocks back on to get some warranty work done so I figured before throwing the suspension back in I'll upgrade these while they are outside.

Question: What about those collars in the parts diagram? Aren't they needed too or aren't they different? Also why do we need to replace the rear when the steering feel is mainly in the front? Just curious?

And lastly how much did all 8 run?

Hey good catch. I thought front and rear had different part numbers, but you're right, they are the same; the part number you listed is what you want.

Yes you need 8 and I don't remember if they sold them as singles or pairs.

Good. I know I've been an advocate of these but would hate for someone to do all work just for bushings and then realize they only got a small benefit.

Collars should be OK. Same part for all TL's '95 -'12.

I only did the fronts in the '02 and it seems fine. If/when I do replace the rear shocks, I'll do them then.

About $125 for all 8.

I am re-using my top hats. I suppose what you are talking about is included with the stock top hats.

I am replacing all 4 corners because I bought a whole suspension.
cant let the rears go to waste

this is where I bought them from:
