TPMS and Tire Rotation
I was wondering how the car knows what sensor is in what location. In other words- when I rotate my tires will the system automatically pick it up?

Man of God.....
Well, I don't have the answer here. But some input. I was changeing tires at Firestone (Blizaks) when the tire guy broke the TPMS sending unit!! The TPMS DID know which tire was bad. And with sending unit replaced. All was right in TL land again......

Like ^^^^ he said. They use a proximity type sensor, and no programming needs to be done. I asked one of the mechanics about this at the dealer when they mounted the tires on my a-spec wheels.

TPS and Tire Rotation
I have a 2006 TL. I tried to get my tires rotated at a local oil change place that I normally use and they said that they couldn't do it because you need a special tool from Acura to realign the sensors. I went to a nearby Honda dealer and they said the same thing and they didn't even have the capability to do it. When my wife brought it to the Acura dealer today, the mechanic said that anybody could rotate the tires, no special tools required. Does anyone have any info on this?

This is probably totally useless, but on my old Chrysler 300M there was a donut magnet in the trunk used to train the system. When tires were rotated you used the info system to start the 'training' process, then went around the wheels in a specific order putting the magnet around the valve stem. The horn would beep when the system identified the tire. Very easy.
Maybe the new stuff does 'know' where the sensor is automatically. I'm continually amazed at the speed of advances in technology.

OK, My Firestone store changed my winter tires for me. Also have rotated my summer tires. I was right there he didn't use any special tools that I saw.... He didn't say anything about this...

Necro'ing a thread.
But I'm at the point where i need to rotate the tires.
I have the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4, do I have to worry about the directions? or can i GO
Front Drive, to Rear Drives and so forth for the Front Pass to Rear Pass.

I was recently wondering this and found the following from a different thread:
Seems credible to me.

The video indicates that the TL will use ONE receiver with 4 wheel sensors and 4 initiators. The initiators are stationery in each wheel well, while the sensors are mounted on the valve stem.
The 4 Initiators are connected to the TPMS controller which instructs each wheel sensor in turn, when to transmit its data. This way not all sensors transmit at the same time. The receiver then knows which wheel is transmitting so it won't matter if you rotate the tires. The sensors can all be the same since they do not have to transmit a unique ID stream.

I don't think it matters I had two sensors on my glove box for a while with out the sensors on the front tires and the display said that I had the front passenger side with 0 psi.

If you removed the sensor form the car, you would receive a "TPMS ERROR" message as the receiver would have been unable to talk to the transmitter as it was in the car.
