TPMS Issue
TPMS Issue
Hey guys, I'm considering buying some slightly used winter tires for the up coming season. If I decide to change the tires, will it cause my TPMS to light up on the instrument panel or cause any sort of alert? If so, will I be able to simply buy a new TPMS kit for those tires? Thanks in advance.
My experience is TPMS is very specific.
At least on my Jeep there are so many specific part numbers.
I bought a slighty used same brand Spare w/o TPMS via Ebay.
It had same style wheel.
Then bought the matching sensor at Jeep dealer and had
Discount Tire mount it. It worked fine but was costly.

I run my summers all the time with no TPMS sensors .. you get a single cancelable allert after 1 or 2 miles then all you have is a tiny TPMS indicator showing in the instrument cluster. You don't even notice it.
Unless your totally dependent on the TPMS and can't see or feel a tire going down I don't bother with it.

If you don't run wheels with the TPMS sensors, you will have to cancel the MID message each time you start your car...no big deal. However, you will also have to look at the "I" dash light (same indicator that comes on when you're low on gas), and the TPMS light will be on...ya know, this one:
.
ALSO, the TPMS light will blink for like ten seconds (seems like ten minutes) after you press SEL/OK to clear off the TPMS MID message.

Thanks for the heads up!
Will I buy able to have another set of TPMS installed for the winter tires? Not sure exactly where they're placed in the wheel setup, whether it's on the rim itself or not. I saw that some tire sites sell the TPMS kits with a new set of tires.
It has nothing to do with the tires.
The OP has a 2007 TL, so it should be exactly how I described it.
The TPMS sensors are part of the air valve, which can be removed and used with any wheels/tires. They look something like this:
