Toyo Proxes 4 are noisy...

While I love the ride and handling of the Proxes 4's (245/45/17) I purchased a few months ago, the highway noise/drone is really starting to get on my nerves. I'm wondering if that's simply a trait I'll have to live with or if I have one or more bad tires. Anyone else find these tires noisy (and yes, definitely noiser than the stock EL-42s)?

I just installed four new Proxes4's and have had no problems. How many miles do you have on them??? I think the ride and quietness are so much better than those Potenza RE 030 (HPT) tires.

When I first switched from my EL42s to the Proxes 4, they did drone on the highway. I thought I was imagining it at first, but I wasn't. It was a little noisy. However, the grip that they provided more than made up for it...so I lived with it.

The proxes that I just got on are a little loud compared to stock but I can't really compare them to anything else because I haven't had any other tires.

Never tried. I heard it is "iffy" though. I switched to Nokian WRs in the winter.

I think I'll try and rule out a bad tire by swapping each out with the spare. The noise isn't subtle, it's loud. My '04 is at the dealer right now getting the vibration dampener and, hopefully, rear suspension TSBs done (showed it to them today -- first time my service advisor had seen it). They gave me an '06 TL as a loaner and it's definitely a lot quieter on the road (Michelin XSE's).

I hear they're so-so in the snow. Unfortunately I was in California during this winter's one and, so far, only snow event. Sucks since I love snow.

Just a quick update on the noise. It's pretty much gone and I haven't a clue why. Kinda just slowly started diminishing over a span of a week or so.

It's not that I've just become acustomed to the noise, it's really has disappeared. Since I inpected the tires for things like rocks embedded between the treads before, all I can think of is that there was some manufacturing defect on the tire (bump or ridge) that eventually wore away. In any case, totally happy with the tires now.
