Question TL 6MT Snow Tires

Hello Everyone,

I've got a 2004 TL 6MT. I'm running Blizzak Snows on OEM rims.
It's definitely better than running stock tires -- but not much better.

I'm thinking of running something narrower than the stock 235/45 17s.
This would of course mean narrower rims. This setup would give far better
snow traction.

Has anyone done this? I'm curious to know....

Thank you,
TL-Rocket

Do a -1 conversion. Get 16" wheels and mount them with 215/55 R16.

I would be cautious, however, to get the ones with an "XL" load rating. There are two great ones available at Tirerack.

Maximum Snow Traction & Less Performance: Michelin X-Ice Xi2 97T

Better Performance & Less Snow Traction: The Dunlop Winter Sport 3D 97H

I put a set of 235/45 R17 Nokian Hakkapeliitta rsi's on my 6MT's OEM rims and they handled great in the snow/slush/ice/etc. I was completely amazed at the difference.

Caution with the -1 conversion, it might not fit. The OP said he has a 6MT, which probably means he has the bigger, upgraded Brembo brakes...

Thanks Opti, I learn something new every day here.

Rocket, I strongly suggest you speak with the experts at Tirerack before doing any sort of downsizing, be it a -1 conversion or a -0 conversion.

In any event, even sticking with OE size but going to one of the deep-snow tires such as the X-Ice Xi2 should give you all the winter handling you'll need.

Another vote for Nokian Hakka rsi

Nothing but good words for the Nokian hakka rsi.

I went narrower (215/50/17) on stock rims for better snow traction. It's the limit for stock rims but no problems so far. The braking performance is incredible.

Which Blizzaks did you go with? Just curious

Also, I hope you know these are pure Winter tires. Do not use them in the summer... you will wear them out COMPLETELY!!! They are much softer for the snow.
