tire problem
Thanks to this tire forum I was able to have the bump stops and allignment on my 2004tl. The service dept at my dealer was unaware of the bulletin. I had 22k on my TL and the dealer was only going to pay 25%(they replaced my rear tires at 8000 miles before for free because when I bought the car they had "tires for life" which they have discontinued for obvious reasons.) I refused to have the 2 rear EL42 tires instaled and asked them why not give me the 25% in cash and I will apply that toward 4 new tires at the Tire Rack. They refused but did offer to pay 25%($100) toward any tire brand they would instal. I decided that I would reserch the Tire Rack and found that the highest rated tire for my TL was a Bridgestone Turanza LSZ ! I really did not want to give Bridgestone any more of my money and I decieded to call their company to vent my frustration about the 22000 miles on their lousy EL42's. I called 1-800 847 3272 and after a short conversation the Bridgestone tech gave me a 17 letter and number code to take to any Bridgestone dealer and he gave me 50% of the list price of 4 EL42's toward the purchase of 4 LSZ's with a 40k mile tread life mounted and balanced for $424, and there is a $100 rebate so my final cost will be $324 which was less then the Acura dealer wante for 2 EL42's. Hope this will help someone else. I am going on a 4000 mile trip and I am interested to see how these tires ware with the bump stops and new allignment fix. I will be watching my tire presure closely and if shows any abnormal ware , hello BMW. If you go to www.Edmunds maintenance popup you will see that the 2004TL has 200 technical service bulletins! The same year BMW 3 series had only 7. Wisdom says don't buy the first year of a new model.
