Tire Pressure on 8.5"x18" 04 ASPEC Wheels?
I have an 04TL with 18" sized by 8.5" wide wheels. I just put Toyo Proxes4 245/35 ZR18s on. These offer much more rim protection then the Zexius 235/35 ZR18. But now that I got brand spanking new tires, how do I figure out what tire pressure to inflate to?
The Toyo website says go look at what the tag on the Door, but the door doesn't know there are lower profile tires than stock. Is there a spec sheet on the Aspec Rims posted somewhere?
Les Schwab pumped them up to 35psi which seems a little low to me. They balooned out a little bit so I pumped them to 42psi. The tires say they go up to 50, but I don't want the inner track to wear out first. How do you figure this kind of thing out?
Thanks,
Jeff

You can vary the recommended PSI (measured when tires are cold) by a couple/three pounds, but I wouldn't run under it or more than 42 PSI in front. The PSI stamped on the sidewall is the absolute max pressure for the tire; the car will likely get skittery and handle abruptly at that PSI.

Three Wheelin'
i had them at 40 front and back 36 and the ride felt so much worse u would feel every little thing and on the highway very bad too ... so put them down to 36/33 and so much better not as harsh anymore. not even close actually. by the way i have the same tires on 19" 245's

The higher front pressure is a handling decision to minimize understeer and make it more neutral. All front drivers tend towards understeer. Increasing pressure has the same effect as using a larger tire. I am amused at guys who put wider wheels / tires in the rear of a FWD car. They are negating the handling benefits.
