Tire Noise Question
I recently had the 18" Gunmetal wheels put on my car along with Toyo Proxes 4s.
The tires handle great, however I've noticed a definite increase in tire noise over the stock 17"/Tauranza combo.
My question is this: Is it normal to get more noise from a lower profile tire or is it simply just THESE tires?
Anyone switch to the 18s, with tires other than the Toyos, and notice the same thing? i.e. Do the Yokohamas make more noise?

Can't say for the TL as I'm still waiting for my wheels, but on my old car I went from 15's to 17's and there was a bit more noise...it wasn't enough to bother me, but I did notice it.

I have no vibrations, shaking, or bias toward either the left or right when driving. I'm not sure if this noise is normal or not, either, but I do share your experiences since switching to the 18's.
Exactly!! It's while slowing down to a stop when I notice it the most. Almost like a grinding/winding down noise...
Maybe it's just the thinner tire.
I'd love to hear from someone with the Yokohamas...

Yes, you do get a bit more noise with a lower profile and larger rim. I have 2 sets of Toyo's one the stock 16s the P4s and the T1-S on the 18s. The P4s are not loud at all. The 18s are much louder. Its not that bad. But that is the price I guess you pay for looks and handling.

Did you guys check for tire feathering?
Especially check the inner side of rear tires..
Do you have the Aspec suspension as well or just the rims?
Also are you running 235/40/18's or a different size tire?

Drifting
I don't have Yokes, but I do have the Michelin PS2's and I can say that these are some very quiet tires for being low profile, High Perf Summer rubber.

things that make u go hmmmm?
Feathering:
The edge of the tread is "feathered" and worn progressively from one side.
The wear ridges can be felt by drawing a hand across the tread. Feathered
treads (easier to feel than see)
After more than an hour search on the web, I was not able to find a pic
of feathered tires. I will have to take a pic of my tires to show you what
My TL A-spec has done to 3 sets of tires...
Acura is currently working on a fix for my car.
One rumor has it, the 04' gun metals (18" x 8.5") are the cause.
They are not compatible with the cars suspension system and causing erratic scrubbing against the road of the tires.
That’s why they were quietly discontinued and replaced by 18' x 8" rims for 05

So i have the Yokohama's and I am getting this terrible whirring sound coming from my front left wheel well. I just got my tires roated after having a blowout. I brought the car back to the dealer, where I bought the car and the tires from. They say its a normal issue with all low-profile tires. When I had my stock tires and rotated them, I did not get this whirring sound. Do you guys think this is normal or could there be something wrong with the car. The noise is coming from the same area where the tire blewout and the new tire has been put on my left rear side because of the rotation. Any help you guys can give would be appreciated.

The tire noise that I have can be heard of the radio. Its really weird. But the service manager at Acura called me back after I called and complained and she's gonna stick 4 new tires on it and see if I still have the noise.
