Time to replace tires ? Which ones?

Time to replace tires ? Which ones?
I have a 2005 TL (with Nav) that has stock Michelin tires. The car now has 21000 miles on it.
Was wondering when the tires should be replaced in terms of miles. Also, am a bit tired of the road noise with the Michelins, is there a softer and quieter tire that I can buy?
Thanks,

Stock Michelin MXM4's basically suck.
You replace your tires when the wear bars are flush, or nearly so, with the tread. That is not mileage dependent as different people drive differently and in different conditions.
Of course, it they have tread-life left, but you just can't stand 'em any more, then by all means, change 'em.
Which tire is better depends on what you want - Pure Performance, All Season Performance, High Price, Low Price, "Touring" tires, etc.
Look on Tire Rack. They have user surveys rating various tires by Performance Segment.

the MXM4's suck? fuckers cost $180+ a tire... i flipped a shit when i got a bubble, and tire places all told me the tire was close to 200.... you would think like $90 General exclaim tires suck..
i vote Dunlop SP Sport Maxx as the best, and its rated pretty high. I think the best rated tire is like the Bridgestone Potenza RP Pole something or the other

Others always put their 2¢ in about tyiz when someone asks.
I offer the curious a link to see the FACTS.
And based on my experience with them after 7000 miles and through wintery conditions, I'll still put them up against any of the other tire recomendations on this forum.
Incidentally, where the heck is N35°02'01", W080°48'19.5" anyway?

Well, first off, I was kidding. Of course I don't believe you're getting paid. I think you just love these tires.
2nd, that link is as much "marketing" as "fact".
I don't doubt they are a good tire. You've seen me post that they are what I am leaning toward for replacement of my OE stockers. I respect that you like the GY F1 AS and advocate them. All I'm saying is that just because Goodyear say's it's a great tire, doesn't mean it's true.
IMO, it's better to let someone make an informed decision based on thier own criteria. Your enthusiasm and the link below have more weight to me than the company propaganda.

The General Exclaim UHP offers surprisingly good performace for the dollar- based on MY real life driving, and the test results on tirerack. The price is low but the quality high- designated M&S but better suited to summer type conditions and extreme rain areas in winter- than full on snow every day- in my opinion.

Just put the GY F1 A/S's on my car today. They balanced out with minimal weight, though they were a bit of bitch to mount (I mount my own and have them balanced). I took them up to 80 on the interstate with ZERO vibration or shake. They track straight (my EL42 POS's pulled and drifted bad). An early observation is that these are a nice tire. I will hold off on an all out yes or no until I put some miles on them. They appear to be pretty quiet and do good in the snow covered roads we had this afternoon. I think I will be happy with them for the long run.

those are what fsttyms likes too
I was reading on General Tire website that new tires need 1000 miles to get all the surface stuff from manufacturing off the tread- things like mold release agents and whatever silica compounds etc. Then they work really well and can be evaluated fully
Winter tires especially will work better with a few miles on them.

Thanks for your responses. Need to figure out how much tread-life is left. I was a bit concerned as for the next 3 yrs will have to drive 400 miles every weekend. Don't want to get stuck on the freeway with wornouts
