Suggestions for All-Season tires

Just acquired 6MT 2005 TL and hate the OEM tires, I'm looking for reasonably priced set of All-Season tires that will perform well in North-East, upcoming winter's snow is definitively on my mind but I do not want to invest in separate set of winter tiers.

Thanks,

AK

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (my preference)
Pirelli P-Zero Nero
Pirelli P700 SuperSport (had a couple sets on a previous car)
Falken Ziex 512

A forum search will turn up more info.

P.S. Who's Abby and why is her blue paint on your car?

Final candidates

I spent couple hours doing research and come up with final three candidates (keep in mind that ultra high performance is not a requirement for me but price plays a big role):

BFGoodrich's Traction T/A
Bridgstone Potenza G009
Falken Ziex 512

I would suggest Conti ExtremeContact. It is an awesome tire!

Conti's have issues with tramlining and have VERY stiff sidewalls.

I just ordered a set of 18's and chose from the following:
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
Pirelli Pzero Nero M/S
Yokohama AVS dB S2

The Michelin's are on the top of the bunch, but there is a soft center rib (for snow use) that wears quickly. Having read most of the posts on the Rack, most folks are only getting between 15000 and 20000 miles out of these tires. Also, they are SUPER expensive ($241 for 245/40R18).

The Pirelli's are a close second to the Michelins. The have excellent tire grip and cornering capability, but they aren't as good as the Pilots in the wet. Their average span of life is 20000 to 30000 miles and they are the cheapest of the bunch ($150 for 245/40R18).

The Yokohama's came in third. They are supposed to be some of the quietest tires available in this class. Some folks on the rack have complained that their winter capabilities aren't up to snuff and during performance driving they tended to heel over on the sidewall. According to Doug at the Rack, these tires are running on old technology. They are a little more expensive than the Pirellis ($168 for 245/40R18).

I chose the Pirelli's due to their close rating to the Pilots and their good price. I am also adding a tire pressure monitoring system (SmarTire) to the car.....

I have the Falkens. Cheapest and best tire for the money versus all those suggested here. Mine were $500 - including mounting, balancing, installation, tax, and road-hazard warranty. After 5000 miles, I swear by them.

Good Info

This is good Info. I have been trying to decide between the Pilots and Pirellis. I think that I am leaning toward the Pirellis just because of the longer tread life.

I still have the El-42s now and they are showing the tread wear marks and I only have 12K miles.

yzfrebel: watch out with the EL's, their traction in the wet drops off rapidly as the tires wear.... Had 11,000 miles on the EL's before mine needed replacement.

Nokian WR's though they're fairly expensive. Around $200/each.

I put on pzero nero m+s on my TL and they've been great. Granted we've only had one day with snow.

I know the list is title All Season Performance... however, the list is really all touring tires. It does not include the Mich Pilot Sport A/S, the Mich Pilot PS2, the Pirelli P-Zero Nero.

I can't wait...

Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S are coming home as soon as I put at least a few miles on the crappy tires that came with the car...

Dry Traction 9.1
Wet Traction 8.8
Hydro Resistance 8.7
Snow Traction 7.4
Cornering Stability 8.8
Steering Response 8.8
Ride Comfort 8.8
Noise Comfort 8.8
Tread Wear 8.7

From tirerack.com.... Gotta love all those number in the GREEN.

Use the EL's with caution on the slick stuff (rain, snow, ice). They break loose with little to no warning.
