Spring Compressor Recommendations

I'm looking to pick up a shock spring compressor for some work I have planned in a couple of months. I realize I could rent/borrow one from Autozone or Advanced Auto, but the prices seem really reasonable on these tools. Having never used one, which spring compressor do you guys recommend. Looking for a safe tool that is easy to use, at a good value.

FUCK all those stupid ones that you can rent..
they are hard to work with and are dangerous if not operated correctly.

and most of the times, i couldnt get them to operate correctly, which proved dangerous.

Worked with a quality compressor before? Got a link to the model?

^well, the only one that I liked, was a wall mounted one that my friend had in his shop.

and those are expensive!!!!!

i was merely ranting about the autozone compressors.

Used many different types of spring compressors and even the inexpensive units work well, but make certain you get one that clamps around the coils, similar to:
http://www.alltradetools.com/catalog...ompressor.html

With this you're guaranteed that the spring won't come out and you'll not need the services of a dentist and the cost is somewhere around $35. Just tighten around coils and compress using a ratchet, or better yet an air compressor.

This set has good reviews on Amazon, but doesn't use U-bolts as the safety mechanism. Anyone used these spring compressors?

^^these are the same ones as the one you would rent at autozone. i used them several times and they get the job done. just with any spring compressor you just have to be really cautious of what your doing or else it can be really lethal.

^^That's the same one I have too. You have jack with the channels to get between the coils but they do the job. I've used it to remove my OEM top hats and install H&R coilovers. There no where as easy as the wall mounted pro type.

I will say you do need an air impact or electric impact to rotate the screw. No way I would even think to do that by hand.
