A spec suspension

Had the suspension installed yesterday and if anyone is thinking about getting it and need yet another satisfied customer posting on the forum about how good it is and how its totally worth the money.....well here I am.

This suspension set up is awesome. My old car was an A4 1.8T lowered on 18's by koni shocks and H&R race springs. Totally stiff suspension, could feel every bump on the road. It did handle like a race car but was a little too stiff. When I got the TL I noticed that it was way too soft, way too much body roll. Actually hesitent on pushing it to its limits. Thats where this forum came into the picture. After reading a ton of info about the comptech springs versus the A spec set up I decided to go with factory.

Prior to the suspension upgrade I felt it was lacking some serious control. But the last 2 days have been awesome...pushing the car around sharp turns with ease. Gave me the control that I was missing while keeping the nice luxury ride the TL has to offer. I think its the best of both worlds. I have just ordered the Comptech Swaybar and Im sure the difference will be slight but for 100 bucks I can't say no.

If anyone is thinking about the A-spec suspension, I totally recommend it. The dealers in Canada part out the A-spec kit as they didn't even know that the package was available like it is in the US. I paid 1300 cdn including taxes + install. I guess thats about 1000 USD. Again its a sweet set-up and think all TL's from factory should come with this suspension.

I'm surprised that they let you part it out so early in the prouction run. I have an 05 and I didn't get the A-Spec suspension but just the aero-kit because I knew I wanted aftermarket wheels instead of the A-Spec wheels (nice but I wanted a really unique combo) and didn't want to pay the extra bucks for the A-Spec stock wheels that I wouldn't be using (I was told about $1800 USD for the wheels in the A-Spec package cost).

When I went back to JUST get the suspension I was told that they are unwilling to sell it to me seperately untill later in the model run year ("like they did with the 04's"). I was told that Acura trys to pair the ground effects stuff with the suspensions in the factory and ONLY when corporate Acura knows they have extra's (that didn't get ordered) will they start to release those separately.

I was also told that the 04 kit wouldn't fit my 05, so I could get one of those...which doesn't sound quite right, since the cars have so few changes between the model years.

I have called 12 different dealers in a 4 state surrounding area and got the same story from ALL the parts people.

I am considering going aftermarket on the suspension if I can't get the A-Spec one, but considering I don't want a slammed look (45 year old guys have a different peer group), I want a stiff, yet factoryish ride and I like the idea of Acura backing that sort of major component with a factory warrenty, I would perfer the factory stuff.

If anyone out there knows differently give me a shout.

Another satisfied customer here

audi_to_TL: Interesting, since my dealer went ahead and sold me just the struts/springs. I have had the suspension on for about a month now. I know that Falconi Acura in Nevada has been the source for many forum members and was for me until my local dealer decided to meet the Falconi price.

How about E-Bay? Here's one for the AT:

Or this one for the MT:

Damn good price. I paid $650+S&H from Falconi in Vegas.

SKIUL8TR: If you want an excellent ride with a slight drop in height go with the A-spec. It is a little expensive, but it comes with both shocks and springs. It keeps the luxury ride while improving handling. I guarantee you will be satisfied with it. I also didn;t want to slam the car, just wanted to improve the handling and the A-spec set up does it. Ohh and don't forget about warranty......some dealers look for an excuse to void warranty. My dealer told me straight up..that if i use an aftermarket spring they will void my suspension warranty.

I looked at the ebay ad and it would seem to appear that the 04 & 05 suspention kit is the same. Like I said the Acura Parts guys say they are different....I even looked in their book yesterday and sure enough they have seperate parts numbers. Still it seems unlikely that the parts could be that different considering the biggest change between the model years seems to be how the seat belts are connected and 2 verse 3 pannels on the front seats. STILL I would hate to buy the set up and not have it work. I will have to see if my dealer will install those parts with a factory warrenty. I'm sure if I do it, then it voids some aspect of the warrenty. Besides I've pulled out the back seat of my last car doing suspention and I just didn't have that much fun.

And edd99 as far as the pics ...I will have to take a few this weekend and show you what I've done so far, but those beautiful summer shots in the photo gallery are MUCH more appealing than winter in Denver. I bet it's snowing up in BC more than here, so you know what I mean...My plan is to go to the Basketball all star game that's here this weekend, I'll see if I get a chance to get the digital camera out.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

BTW Audi_to_TL : I second ed99's request for you to post pics of your car since I have a vested interest.

ed99 Did you ever go with the Axis wheels and lower your ride yet? I haven't seen any pics since the nice one in the Photo Gallery one from a while back.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: You've made a number of contributions to the photo gallery that I personally really appreciated when I was choosing wheels. I wonder if there is a way to RE-ORGANIZE and update the modified gallery with all the pics from the tire and suspension section. I think I saw the white and anthracite teams have great galleries off site.

Someone needs to retool that section with ALL the 04's and 05's we can find. Since I'll need to figure out how to post later next week I'm probably a bad candidate.

you can send them to me awdwagon@msn.com or host them via www.photobucket.com or www.imageshack.us or even www.we-todd-did-racing.com

imageshack.us works good and is fast as you don't need to register. just upload then scroll to the bottom where it says "direct link to this picture" or something to that effect. Copy the url then paste it here like this
ex: and you are done. Make sure there are no spaces.

Seems like the supply problem with A-Spec suspensions persists into the new model year. What a shame. I don't like the body kit and only wanted performance enhancements, which is why I found the A-Spec suspension. Congrats on a great upgrade, guys. When your dealer can't/won't help (and why would they, A-Spec is probably a profit center ), there's always eBay and certain dealers....

Looks great! Does the suspension kit come with a new sway bar or is that a further upgrade?

That we-todd-did-racing site that JDM5lugHatch mentioned just brought me back to high school pranks.....giving someone a piece of paper with that on it and ask them to read it out loud....It seems so innocent by looking at it, but when they say it in front of a group you just about can't stop from crying your laughing so loud..

I am we todd did

I have the 6MT so it comes with the 20mm rear sway bar....I have the comptech swaybar coming which is 22mm in diameter. From what I have read the swaybar from comptech is totally worth buying if you have an Auto. It will make a huge difference in decreasing the body roll. Their are tons of threads on this subject already. I started one concerning the 6MT and if their is a noticable difference when changing to the 22mm swaybar.

WOW you got quite the response on that one. I have a 6MT myself, in fact I just posted a couple of pics in the photo gallery just for grins. Sounds like the sway bar isn't a bad idea, but the biggest bang for the buck is the suspension like you did. The A-spec stuff will definately have to be my next purchase. Thanks for all the info.

Skiul8r,

I was going to order my H&R racing spring last week but now I think I might go with TEIN Basic Coilover kit for my TL. Planning in ordering them sometime end of this month or early March. I will post some pics once I have then installed!!

I just had the A-Spec suspension installed and dropped off the 18x8 "silver sparkle" wheels + Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s (245/40YR18) at the dealer to finish up the alignment. Will let you guys know how it turns out (I have a '04 6MT).

Bought the wheels and suspension off eBay (my dealer wouldn't split up the "kit").

Cheers.
