Some questions on some 5x112 conversion???

theres a user on the other AZ (audizine) that was asking about trading my rota's that i ran on my s4 for a set of 19x8.5 bbs LM reps. i am very enticed by this setup for the TL.

questions are,
have any of you had a hub drilled before by a machine shop? these wheels are a hub bore of 57.1, and i'd need a 64 for the TL from my research, and i'm wondering an approximate cost of doing such?

also, would wobble bolts work on this? (i know some people are very against them) or would i need to redrill them to 5x114.3? they are a simple cast wheel and i'm not sure if they are worthy of a redrill or if that will cause extra problems...

thank you in advance guys!

try the wobble bolts first. I have my wheels redrilled also,,, BUT In my opinion, dont spend the money unless they are some wheels you REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT. Your looking at anywhere from 50-75 per wheel to redrill, sleeve & rebore. So just think you could spend the extra $200-280 to buy some better wheels after you sell your rotas.

that's what i was sort of thinking...plus it would be shipping from WA to IL...would cost $$$$$$$$$

at that point i would probably just redrill the rims i have already...

thank you for the input!

I would like to seem someone pull off the wobble bolt idea. Wouldn't they be called bobble nuts?

Something like this:

I have always been obsessed with these on VWs so I love them. When I was looking for a passat these were the wheels I was gonna get.

I can't find any pics at the moment but I am sure Google can produce some alphards on a B5.5 passat (that's the one I almost got before I got a TL) and a B6. I think they look great on a MK5 GTI too.

^The Passat you just posted pictures of is a B5. It's the platform VW used for Passats and A4s from 1996-2005 and 1994-2001, respectively.

that's a passat B5.5, it got a fast lift for years 2004-2005. From 1999-2004 was a B5.

then the 06- are B6. This is the same platform names that Audi gets. A4 platforms are named the same

^ bentley wheels only look good on Audis I think. I think there is a GTI here and there that can pull them off but it takes a lot of other modding to pull them off.
That's a sick B5. Like I said, I almost went with a B5.5 Passat Sedan but audi B6 was there on the list. I was just scared of maintenance because I was new to cars. Now I think I could handle it but I would go with a B7 or B8. We'll see next winter if I change my car, it's nice not to have payments.

I think that radewerks (not sure if that's what the company is called) has wobble nuts. I talked to them about a year ago about this. They also give deals to vwvortex members

thanks for the props.

yeah idk. i mean the b5 era cars are horrible and b6 would be better. b7's can have the high pressure fuel pump issues/camshaft issues tho. i would go b6, use the money saved to do some oem+ mods to make it look as new as a b7

also, i think its radarwerks or something along those lines....i guess i could get a set (just 5) of those wobble nuts and see if my purple bbs reps would fit on there...would make sense no?

but they are a +48 offset, and i know that the TL comes with big brembo calipers, but they seem smaller than my b5 brakes clearance-wise. wondering if they truly are. not sure if i could even get them mounted enough to tell

I think you could still get those wheels put on, just to tell how much clearance you have, if any. wobble nuts are only needed to firmly tighten the wheels on there but for test fitting purposes you don't need that.

I think you should do that, just get 5 nuts for test fitting purposes. You already have the wheels (if center bore is big enough to go over the stock, 64.1). You would be a pioneer haha And I bet more and more people would be doing this. There are some mercedes wheels that people would love to have on their TLs

well now that i'm thinking further about it.

since they are 5x112, i dont think i could even place the wheels on without modifying the bolt pattern...plus the hub is only a 57.1...

yea the hub is the problem but I think that wheels have enough play that they would fit. Not sure tho

i had 14mm lug size on the old car which would give it some play, but idk if its enough. with all this snow we've gotten i really haven't wanted to get in there to check it out. i suppose i could try to slide them on, and i'm sure i can get them far enough that the studs stick through, then see if the recess that's on the rota's is enough for the nuts to do its job...at that point i wouldn't have spent more than $30 and could see if the hub drilling is worth the money...

ignore the crude ps skills. My friend has a set of these on his S4. Going to see if he'll let me test fit them and take some pictures just to see how they'd look in person. Ps doesn't sell me, but I'll give them a chance in person.

^ I personally like them on the TL I think it looks good. That PS, they seem too big. Maybe 18s if the car is slammed, flushed, with small stretch. I don't know

It's not slammed because that's my winter height and it would be a bit lower but I just lowered it on some blocks and left some tension on the jack because of the hub pattern difference. Not a fan on sam, would look much better on NBP.
