Snow tires?
Hey Guys,
I'm a newbie here. I'm considering purchasing a 2005 TL and since I'll be moving to Philly soon, I'm thinking about snow tires. Do you guys think "all season" will do the trick? If you recommend "snows" do you think I should buy wheels as well?

Welcome to the forum
Two schools of thought will soon rise on this topic. My opinion, here in central Ohio, is that All Season tires will do just fine. I have the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's, and I haven't got stuck yet. For those few days where we get 4"+, I'll stay home anyway.

There some really good tires that will work fine for you year round if you should choose to go the route of running them that way. Kind of expensive, but they'll get through the snow, and still provide excellent handling in the summer. Although if you are an ultra agressive driver in the summer months you may want to consider getting separate wheels/tires for the seasonal swap.
According to Tire Rack's ratings, the best UHPAS tires are Yokohama Advan S.4. Second highest is Bridgestone Pole Position. I'm sure other tire sites (and some of the users on this site) may rate them differently, but those are both excellent skins. I have the Advans...and have yet to experience snow, but can say they are awesome in dry and wet weather...best I've ever had on an FWD car. Other guys will have to testify about other brands.
Really it's all up to how much you want to spend and if you want to go through the changeover twice a year or not.

i've got bridgestone WS-50's for the winter and they are spectacular, I highly recommend them if you decide to get snows. They've gotten me through some mean storms and over some huge hurtles. I drove right over a plow ridge that was about the height of the front license plate and those things worked like paddle wheels digging through it. They also handle very well in wet/ dry.
I just purchased Bridgestone pole position 960as to replace my summers, they have yet to see a winter but I think I will keep them on until xmas time to test the a little in the white stuff. Because I go to school so far away from home its always a pain trying to time it right. Last year I put the winters on way to early cause I was not confident in my old tires, this year i'm going to hold out longer.

I'm in a heavy snow area and recently got mounted snow tires (Blizzak Revo 1). They're well worth the investment. I've gone thru slush, heavy deep snow and packed icy snow without any problems. Go for it.
