Snow Problem

I have a 2007 TL with the original Michelin all-season tires (12,000 miles). We had 3 inches of snow and my wheels just spun and I got stuck on an incline.

Can anyone recommend a good tire for the snow?

Blizzark Lm25. I live in Mass and we see a good amount of snow and love them.

Note my screen name. SYR is Syracuse. We get a ton of snow here. Much more than the amateurs in Mass (I went to HS in Mass)

The key is to buy lower width snows. Don't kid yourself and buy "high performance" snows. What a load of crap. If it snows often where you live, you're not worried about performance, you're worried about staying out of the ditch. Save the performance tires for the summer and fall.

I used the Tire Rack and bought 215/55SR16 tires on 16X6.5 steel wheels. This setup works great. I bought the lowest price snows they had and they've been great. I'm halfway through my second winter on them and have never had a problem getting stuck including having to plow my own way out of an airport parking lot following the Valentine's Day storm last year (30" of snow plus what the plows piled up around my car).

16" rims will not fit over Brembro brakes. You must buy 17".

Yeah, the OEM tires suck in snow as you discovered. Acura selects them based on their low rolling resistance thus eeking the TL "fleet" mileage up a touch. Total bullshit on a $30k plus car if you asked me, but here we are! The trade off is obviously mediocre wet and poor snow traction.

If you don't want a dedicated snow tire like others suggested (which would require you to buy extra wheels unless you want to demount/remount them each season - watch how scratched-up your wheels will get if you go that route), I'd recommend the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position. I have a set in the stock 235/45-17 size and love them. I got them specifically for snow/wet. Read this thread for my experience in about 6 inches of snow.

I'd steer you away from the Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S based on my own horrible experience with them. That said, there are several members in here who are happy with their F1 A/S tires. After hearing the feedback from the Discount Tire guys at my local shops, it is one of the most returned tire for them. Plus, a subjective, "I like them" opinion doesn't hold water to me; I like to see things based on data. I want to know how many people in here own a set of 4 of these F1 A/S tires that actually passed a road force balance test (<= 15 lbs of RF per tire). Again, read my thread and you'll see how only 2 of 6 passed on my new rims (I have a 2008 TL that had 400 miles on the clock when I got them installed; the rims were true).

Whatever you end-up getting: PAY THE EXTRA $10 TO GET THEM ROAD FORCE BALANCED. Why? Again, read the two threads for more on this, but it is the best advice I can give to anyone.

I wouldn't go down to a 16' tire simply because it decreases your ground clearance which is already an annoyance in snow belt area's. If you've got Brembo brakes your stock with 17' diameter anyways, if you don't have them get a 17' in a narrower spec than stock. My bridgestone WS-50's do insanely well in the snow, deep, hard packed, slush, ice whatever they're great! Stock size on stocker rimz. A newer version is out called the WS-60 so I can only assume that they are somehow better, but this might allow you to get a good deal on some older WS-50s if you decide to get bridgestones, most people here seem to agree that these are very good snows.
