Should i stay with the 17's or go 18inch?!
Hi guys, i recently bought an TL 2006 non-navi with bluetooth. when i bought the car, they gave a set of winter tire since it's the law in Quebec(montreal) and a brand new set of kumho ecsta for the oem spec. the thing is i would to put some rims on that baby cuz there's to much tl's in Montreal and would like to put some aftermarket rims but i really like the summer tires so could 17inch aftermarket rims will look good on the tires(235-45-17) or should i go with some 18inch rims since i don't want to drop the car??!

well, that's mean i have to sell my kumho ecsta spt that is almost brand new . when i bought the car they only had 500km on them so that's why i was looking for some nice 17inch rims but i doubt that the 17inch will look nice!

I think 17's are going to look awkward unless they are the stock wheels

I almost forgot but it doesn't matter much if you go 17 or 18 for performance. I prefer the 17s as long as they clear whatever brakes you may use in the future but even my 13" Rotoras clear easily. Generally larger rims hurt performance but there are some 18s that are lighter than some 17s.

Here you go. Now that I think about it, this may have been just Konis, not a-spec. I'm going back to check on the purchase date of the a-spec springs and I'll let you know.

Wow IHC, I didn't know your ride looked this sharp
That puppy is has a great shine. You been handwashing it since it was new ? What detailing products do you use ? I use Zaino Z7 and Werkstatt Acrylic Jett Trigger.

It's a credit to the photographer lol.
I waxed it right before the shoot with some cheap stuff. It's only happened twice because I'm lazy yet I won't pay someone to do it.

'08 TL w/Navi
Touren > tr4 > 18
Okay, there it is... I'm gonna put professionally taken pictures soon on wheels & tires. I got a very sweet deal for them by the way, since my buddy works with the company... The Wheel Group > TOUREN > TR4 > 18x8" ...let me know if some is interested for the wheels. We can get them @ $145 a pop only! I know it retails anywhere from $165 to $220 / each.
I think overall they look smokin HOT - what say?

I agree with the 9" width. The TL looks so much better with 255-265 size tires on it than stock size. It's amazing how a wider tire can make it look more expensive.

Hey can you send me a pic or two of your car with the A-Spec rims? I am thinking of doing this for my '06 NBP 6 spd.
This is considered a company car so I do need to take customers in it comfortably. How much harsher is the ride with 18" wheels versus the 17's? I am not looking for huge performance gains (although some would always be cool). I just want to fill out the wheel well a little more. I have winter tires that are going to stay on the stock 17's.

^Here you go:
I honestly can't tell a difference in driving comfort at all with the A-Specs. I highly doubt your customers would complain about the ride comfort.
You mentioned that you wanted to fill out the wheel well a little more. Have you thought about swapping suspension? The A-Spec suspension gives a small drop with increased handling (so I've heard). Or are you opting to go for wheels since it's a company car and those will be easy to switch off compared to suspension when it's time to give it back?

The pros are the 18s usually look better especially with stock height cars but they will make your Brembos look smaller.
Keep in mind most of the overall height difference is taken away by the lower aspect ratio. If our cars had the power to turn them I would do a 255/40/18. I think that would look very nice.

Thanks for the feedback guys. So the 18" is strictly a visual thing? That's interesting I would have thought the slightly lower profile tires give up a little less lean. That's good too know. But I like the look of the A-Spec rims. And it sounds like it won't impact ride quality which is even better. Thanks guys!
I hadn't thought of suspension mods. I am lucky in that I don't have to turn the car in. It's a different "company car" because they give me a car allowance and let me pick something out (within reason) up to a certain dollar amount. I can't come back with a coupe or gas guzzler. I get to determine how long I keep the car and when I move on to something else. I picked this '06 up with 20,000 miles on it a year and a half ago. It only has 41,000 miles on it and it has given me no problems so I plan on keeping it for a couple of years. With that said, I do think about resale value so I tend to stick with OEM upgrades. So I hadn't really thought of suspension mods, but I forgot about the A-Spec suspension. I will probably get rid of the car once the warranty is up.
In terms of tires, I have been looking at Tire Rack and have been leaning towards the Continential ExtremeContact DWS with the 18" wheels. They seem to balance traction and wear. I like the idea of a 50,000 mile tire because it should be the last I buy for the car. Anybody have those on their car? I did consider the Pirelli Nero's but they are $25 more per tire for what seems to be only a slight gain in traction.

I'm running a set of 245/40/18 Kuhmo Ecsta Platinum wheels with my A-Specs. I got them off of Tire Rack and I believe they have a 60,000 mile treadlife warranty.
If I were you, from what you have said about the car's current condition, I would get a set of A-Specs and not mess with the suspension.

Since you have new tires just get a nice set of 17" aftermarket rims. When you are done with those tires then change to 18s. I always change wheels when I need tires.
