Scratches on 06 TL Wheels - Prevention
After a few walks around the Acura dealership I could not help noticing the damage on several vehicles' stock wheels (new and used vehicles).
How are you guys preventing simple abrasions other than not contacting anything? It appears the wheel will contact any verticle surface prior to the tire. I can say this is not the case on 16" Honda Accord wheels.
Any concerns with car wash wheel tracks and wheel damage? Not sure how one could avoid this other than hand washing.

The only way to prevent abrasions is to not contact anything. Easier said than done, but you will get used to parking farther from curbs and watching what you do more.
Some car washes won't harm the wheels while others will. You probably need to watch other cars going through and see how the wheel contacts the guides.

Go with 245/45-17's as an upgrade at the dealership. The cost of this upgrade will almost guarantee that you'll never be searching for replacement wheels on Ebay.
After 44k miles, I replaced three of the four wheels on my car when I replaced my tires. Buying them on Ebay helped, but it still cost me ~$450 to solve this problem.

[QUOTE=Acura Jeff]I believe the 06 TL comes with a 235 series, 17" Michelin Pilot HXMXM4 93W. /QUOTE]
Note that the NAV option comes with the Michelins. The non-NAV has the Bridgestone Turanza EL42s

I really appreciate your suggestions as I expect to take delivery of my TL sometime this month. Thanks to the postings about the Bridgestone tire issues I asked my dealer to give me the Michelins in lieu of the Bridgestones. He did!
Do I need to go back to the dealer and ask for 245 series tires instead of the factory 235's to avoid wheel abrasions. I am not sure if that will do the trick. Can anyone please confirm. Thanks.

I scratched a wheel on my month old '06 TL. I took it to the dealer and the body shop made the wheel like new for $75. I was a happy boy and I made a promise to myself to pay more attention while parallel parking.

245/45-17's on the factory OE wheels will give you about 1/4" of rubber extending beyond the face of the wheel. If you lightly curb the tire, you will survive without a scratch. A heavy curbing will probably result in a scratch, though. I hope this helps. If you're buying new, I'd strongly suggest this change.

I am assuming you went with 245/45-17's?
If I bump up to a 245 from a 235, wouldn't one need to change the "45" number by "5" to compensate and maintain accurate speedometer readings? That is what was communicated to me by a tire shop.

Stock size (235/45-17) sidewall height = 105.75mm
245/45-17 = 110.25mm
245/40-17 = 98mm
So you see the difference of the 245/45 from stock is less than the 245/40.
4.5mm vs 7.75mm
