Rubbing or Clunking...

Sup fellas,
Just got some 19's and I love em. I was driving today with two other passengers, one in my passenger seat and one in the rear right side. Anywho everytime I went over a bump I heard a clunking sound in the right rear. I dont know if it was rubbing but I'm almost positive it wasn't? Idk im kinda just eh about it and want to fix it. Any suggestions?

Wheels specs-19x8 30 Offset 245/35/19

Kennedy had these wheels except he had a 1.5" drop on top with no rubbing issues what so ever

Ballin,
Well, no two cars are the same. I never drove with passengers with those Netz though. Some have reported slight rubbing with this setup, other haven't.

I'm running 19 x 8.5 +36 offset (15mm wider than stock) - which means the outer edge of my rim is identical to the outer edge of yours. I too am running 245 35 falken 452s on Tein ss (lowered 1.5), and I haven't rubbed yet.

Go look at your right rear fender under the lip and see if the tire is making contact, if it is, a very minot tweak of the fender lip is all you'd need to do to fix it.

Damn, and your car isn't even lowered....19x8 w/ 30 offset shouldn't rub, even with a passenger. I can't even imagine the wheel traveling that high to rub against anything. Before I dropped my car, I think I had a 2-3 finger gap. I'm guessing its something else? Try having 2 passenger in your car again and go over a bump, but this time have someone watch from the outside.

i had rubbing issues in the rear right as well, but that was because i was lowered quite a bit and the tire was rubbing the rear a-spec lip. then i fixed that problem, but went to get an alignment, and found that it was actually rubbing the rear upper fender....but again, i was lowered....so i dunno...but it's a clunking noise, check to make sure the shocks are tightened down....

Yeah exactly you guys are dropped mine is at stock hieght with 19s aka 4x4 haha but I did push down on the trunk today to see if the suspension was making that sound but nope. I think it might be rubbing but its a sound like theres something in the trunk and when you go over a bump or something it bounces except its coming straight out of the rear right.

What should I do? Get an alignment, put the stockies on and take it to the dealer, roll the fenders(still can't understand why that would be necessary), etc...any suggestions?

Rubbing is one thing. Clunking is another. I would get back there, remove the wheel, make sure it is on right. Put the stock wheel on, see if it goes away. If it does, you have a problem with that wheel.

Rubbing and clunking sound different. If it sounds like an impact you are not rubbing.

I would blame the actual shock before the wheel....theres not much that can go wrong with a wheel besides not being mounted to the hub right or the actual tire not being mounted right. Since hes still here and typing, i'm guessing the tire is on there fine. I'd take it off and remount it, maybe tighten the lugs harder. My money is on the strut though.

Also, if you messed with your rear sway bar, check if thats tightened in there. I remember a sound coming from my rear, but once I tightened the holders that goes over the bushings, the sound went away.

i think you should just sell the car....jk. are you pushing on the trunk or i say open the trunk, and stand on the edge of it...between the inside and the rear bumper, and jump up and down...

I bet its something to do with the RSB /end links

Wheels don't make clunking sounds that i know of....they just break a lot of necks

Even so, hes not even drop. And he said clunking.

I told him not to go and give a mechanic money... I told him put the wheel on the front and the clunking wheel on the front... if the noise moves to the front then we all know it is the wheel... alot of the time a simple rotate does the trick

Ok so i pulled the wheel out switched it with the front wheel...and ithe sound is STILL coming. I'm almost positive that it's not the suspension. I feel like both times, the wheels on the right rear side have been more outward than the left rear, but it may just be my imagination

Check the alignment. Isn't there some TSB for the control arms or something?

I suggest having the suspension checked. Can't you go to the dealer? Under Warranty?

Obviously it is not the wheel itself. It could be a rub if the alignment is that far off. However that would be pretty odd. I can't even confirm it for you because I am not confident you could differentiate the sounds of clunking and rubbing.

You also need to get a little more informed about thing before buying You need to know the offset.

If I am offending you at all I am sorry. I get a little short when I get techy. Others can vouche for that

I'm not offended at all, haha, I'm not really a techy guy when it comes to cars and whatnot, still learning. The offset however, a couple other people have ran it and it's working fine with them. I'm pretty sure it's rubbing b/c the dips I ussually go over are sudden ones so it just hits hard for a split second, I'm guessing.

I could go to the dealer, but I'd have to take all the wheels off, so just wanted to see if there were any solutions.

I think I'll just take it to the dealer though just to make sure
