Ron Jon Wheels and Costco Experience

A week ago, I ordered some tires from Costco to replace my 17" OEM wheels with 18" RJ Legend wheels to be installed on my TL Type S and the tires finally came in today. So I head over to Costco and hope to have them installed. Costco did a test run by mounting the wheel only with the RJ lugnuts. They found that they could only get 5 turns out of the lugnuts and their policy requires 10 turns. Basically, they said the studs are too short and they refused to mount the tires on my car. Anybody had similar experience at Costco or anywhere else?

But when I came home and did a comparison between the RJ wheels and OEM wheels, I found that I can get 7 turns out of RJ and 8 turns out of the OEM by turning it with my hand.

You should be fine, but props to costco for being cautious. Of course this is a big liability issue.

Take them over loose and have the tires mounted and balanced and then you do the install when you get home.

might even be cheaper and safer too. usually lot of guys mess up the paint around the lugs by using the impact gun. Depending on the color of the ROnjons, they chip so easily its unbelievable...

Plus you'll be able to torque them correctly.

Yes Costco is pretty cautious.

They will not rotate my tires because of the inner/outer edge wear. They say the tires are shot and I need new tires. Discount Tire says I have another 10K left on my Pilot A/S plus tires. Go figure. I'll be splitting the difference and replacing before Winter hits.

I can't wait for them to tell me that so they will replace them under warranty.

To the OP: Costco is absolutely wonderful to deal with on regular car stuff. Do not trust them with anything fancy and shiny. They managed to scratch 3 of my rims when mounting my tires and they ended up giving me $450 to go get them re-finished.
