I thought I would write a review on the H&R Coilovers after having them on for about a month.

First off, I purchased the H&R's from Josh at Excelerate Performance.

By purchasing the top hat kit, it make the install go easier, faster and smoother. Also I order the Type S bushings for that more sportier ride that I was looking for.

Now it is important when comparing the H&R Coilovers to any other coilover that you compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Therefore the equivalent to the H&R Street Performance Coilovers from Tein is the Tein Basic Coilover system. The reason is, is because both coilovers only offer height (ride height: low or high you want to ride) adjust ability and not damping (how soft or stiff you want the ride) adjust ability. However, please note that I am not comparing these two type of systems... sound good?

Performance/Wants:

I wanted the ride to be better than stock Type S suspension and obviously lower and more sportier for just enough to still make it a daily driver. I am very surprised with the results, not only does it feel like it is glued and planted to the ground (also with the help of Progress RSB) but it feels as though it is tougher, sturdier, stronger, durable, and beastly than stock. It is very responsive and overall very satisfied with my purchase. Going through the turns in this car now is absolutely amazing. Less body roll and improved handling offers that feeling of sticking to the ground through the corners and driver confidence. Through the construction sites that I have to drive on, the H&R's offers confront and reliability. It just feels like these H&R coilovers were meant to be taken through any condition on the road that you would encounter. And of course the opiton to raise the TL during the winter time. 10/10

Design:

The H&R Street Performance Coilovers for the TL and TL Type S is a universal fit from the Accord. Even though it says Accord these applications are interchangeable.



Other design info such as construction and quality is located in the link provided earlier in the post. 10/10

Specs on Lowering:

These H&R's are for anyone who wants a nice subtle drop such as myself until I get some wheels or a person who wants to slam that TL to the ground and have sparks fly from scarping the exhaust underneath your car. You choose!

Front Lowering: 1.2 - 2.5"
Rear Lowering: 1.0 - 2.5"

I opted for about a no finger gap in the front and
about a 1 finger in the rear.

NOTE: These H&R coilovers are little bit more pricey than Tein, but you get what you pay for, not to say Tein's are bad but it is just like the intakes (AEM, Fujita, Injen, etc.)/J-Pipes (ATLP or R-V6/and exhuast systems (too many to list) for these TL's, it is just what up to the consumer which one to buy!

Customer Service

I have not had to use the Customer Service yet but, one thing that made my decision easier was that they offer a lifetime warranty on their products and the fact that other members on the forum have used the Customer Service Dept. and said good things about them...

I hope this answers a lot of questions that people have concerning H&R Coilovers, as I know only a handful of us members actually own/ed them (princelybug, D R E W, erick3, powerflow, flip_side, juruki, aznbo187, and myself.)

I concur with the rater. I'm very satisfied with my H&R coilovers & paired up with the H&R rear sway bar gives great results in handling and body control.

If you decide not to go with the Tein SS I would recommend going with the H&R coilovers over the Tein Basic coilovers.

 

I couldn't have said it any better myself! I'm still surprised at how long these H&R truCoilovers have lasted me. I rip through corners and through bumpy, heavily damaged, messed up, ugly roads in the U-District and all around Seattle. I got into an accident and damaged my front left driver side wheel...the coilovers despite were UNDAMAGED, despite the impact site and severity of the collision. the car feels like it did the first day i installed them. just an fyi, i've had the H&R's for almost 4 years now. not a problem oh and about the comfort, sooooo true (despite them being stiffer).

Hey I know you said oranges to oranges but can you say Tein SS> H&R> Tein Basics? SS's only b/c of the adjustability. And I'm looking for a stiffer ride.

 

Nice write up! I did a lot of searching before I purchased my suspension. I was stuck between H&Rs and the TEIN SS. It was pretty close but after reading some negative comments about the SS and a couple of other reviews on both suspension systems, I had to go with H&R's.... I've had them for about 7 months and I love'em.

Got these coming in today, still need to order the parts (top hats, bushings etc.) to make it a direct swap. I'm hoping i will be able to install these in a timely fashion lol.

I don't planning on slamming my TL, just looking to take it down 1.5 tops, how low did the OP take it down?

Nope. It's the exact same part for both UA6 and UA7. The part actually says "Honda Accord" on it.

 

How does it handle at the limit?

Also, for something this pricey, it should offer an adjustable damping for those of use that like to fine tune the suspension to different conditions and different swaybar settings. Is there an H&R coilover kit that offers this adjustability?

 

Not that I know of for our cars. Yes, the H&R's are pricey. But, that's "Made in Germany" for you.

 

If the coilover quality is anything like the swaybar quality, I'm sure they're worth every penny.

My only problem is adjustability. I found best handling with my Konis and stock suspension at 1/4 turn from full soft. I had to stiffen them more with the a-spec springs and even more with the stiffer front and rear swaybars. I'm running the fronts one turn from full stiff now and it provides about the same damping as they did 1/4 turn from full soft on the stock suspension.

With the shocks turned up that high with stock suspension it was waaaay overdamped and stiff but it feels just right with the stiffer suspension.

My point is that you need to increase the shock damping as you add spring rate whether it's by coils or swaybars. Of course it's not absolutely necessary but if you like to fine tune, it's nice to have.

I'm not putting the H&Rs down at all, just wondering if there's any such thing as adjustable damping for them. I'm getting bored again and I feel a change coming on.

 

Well, when I had my H&R's, I loved them. Build quality is great. I don't like Teins, I think they're cheap. That's why I went with H&R's in the first place. Yes, you pay more for "less" in that you don't get dampening adjustability, but that was something I was willing to live with. I did, however, have the creak under load in with the rear coils.

I doubt H&R makes anything with dampening that will fit our cars, though. Someone would've posted it by now.

i think i've heard more good reviews on the Tein SS than bad reviews! with that said its a matter of choice of what coilovers you go with! Tein are made in Japan and H&R's in Germany!! Unless you are saying Germans make better cars and suspension than Japan then thats a different story! lol

people are saying that TEIN SS is better because it's the popular choice. And it's a popular choice because dampening can be changes, making them ride softer-harder. Where as H&R doesn't have that option. There, I just saved you any more typing in this thread.

 

Just because it doesn't have that option, doesn't mean its worse than the SS.

 

I'd choose H&R or KW over Tein or the other brands any day.

Hello guys,

I was wondering if this H&R coilover set-up was a good idea coming from a-spec suspension set up.

I won't be going too low, 2 or 1 finger gap at most on stock 17s (1.5" lowering max).
I live in Cali and the roads around my area aren't too bad. Mostly will be driving on the highway. Top priority would be comfort with some sporty feel to it and ability to adjust height if needed later on.

I've been reading and researching on this coilover set for a week now. Purchasing within a month.

The KW V1 offering for our cars don't offer dampening adjustment either. They might even be a little better than HR but for those that want an adjustable ride, it's a show stopper. Unfortunately KW doesn't offer the V2 or V3 for us.

Nobody else has purchased H&R for the TL in the last 4 years?
having these on my current S2000...I will be purchasing them for the TL if the Tein ever do give me an issue. They're still going strong though...almost 7 years later...

 

Ho do you adjust the height on a H&R coilover...cannot find it any where....I got them used so no manual...need some advise...
